UBuntu

i’ve just downloaded the latest version [ubuntu-7.10-desktop-i386] and its an .iso file. i want to install it on my computer [currently i have XP Professional installed]. can someone help me to install it as a separate OS on my computer?

i have AMD Sempron Processor [3000+] and ASUS x-series MB.

thanx in advance.

Re: UBuntu

you should have at least a separate free partition or a second hard drive to use it for the Ubuntu installation.

Just burn the image you downloaded to a CD, then put it in the DC/DVD drive and restart the PC, make sure you have the correct boot order set (PC should boot from CD).

Then the PC will boot from the CD. This is a live CD so it will show the ubuntu desktop. There is an icon called install on the Desktop. You can go on with the installation by clicking on that icon.

thank you kaka-ziggy :flower1:

Re: UBuntu

ok..the file i downloaded was a zipped file. i unzipped it and i got 6-7 folders + other files including an installer n autorun config file. there is no iso file in the main ubuntu folder. should i just burn the main folder + content as **data **or **image **and then boot the system from it?

Re: UBuntu

You could burn the files to disc but it won't be bootable. Check the file again that you downloaded. It might be an .iso file but winzip/winrar was able to extract files out of it. If you can't boot with the cd then find some other utility which would let you create a bootable floppy for the initial boot.

Re: UBuntu

^-- thats what I told you in your PM :halo:

Re: UBuntu

ur both right, TB here, ziggy in the PM. it is an .iso file but winrar was able to extract it. luckly i didn’t delete the source file so i’ll burn it as an .iso with nero.

thanx for the help over-grown-mundeyo. :chai:
