U.S. will increase its flood aid to Pakistan to $150 million.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 19, 2010 – U.S. officials in Islamabad, Pakistan, have provided updated facts and figures for the support the United States is providing to the flood-stricken country:

– Four more Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters arrived yesterday, bringing to 15 the total number of U.S. military helicopters in Pakistan.

– Navy and Marine Corps helicopters at Ghazi Air Base continued relief operations yesterday in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, while Air Force C-130 cargo aircraft based in Afghanistan transported international aid from the Pakistani air force’s central flood relief cell at Chaklala Air Force Base to Sukkur, Pakistan.

– U.S. military helicopters supporting relief operations in Pakistan transported 106,468 pounds of relief supplies and rescued 616 people yesterday.

– Three U.S. military C-130 aircraft transported 60,000 pounds of food and relief supplies from Rawalpindi to Sukkur yesterday in support of airlift requests by the Pakistani government.

– Through yesterday U.S. military helicopter crews had rescued 4,594 people and transported 558,508 pounds of relief supplies since Aug. 5.

– U.S. military C-130s transported 194,000 pounds of supplies Aug. 16-18.

i hope people in pakistan actually get to know that the U.S. is playing such a pivotal role in the relief operations. money doesn't grow on trees here. there are so many poor people, especially in a time of recession with nearly 10% unemployment rate in the U.S, that would have benefited from these millions of dollars. it is really commendable that we Americans have been so generous in our aid to pakistan despite the financial difficulty that many of us ourselves are going through.
