"Pashtuns" wouldn't have paid this price if they had not supported and given refuge to people planning terrorist attacks against others.
Nevertheless, it's good to see that you talked about ethnicity instead of religion. That is true in the case of Taliban fighting others Afghans in Afghanistan. It was not about religion. It was about ethnicity. This is why the Pashtun Taliban had almost no support from non-Pashtun Afghans. And this is why the radical "Taliban" Pashtuns had to fight with the equally radical Tajiks.
The thing is that good and bad people are present in all ethnicities, there would have been some from the pashtuns as well. But the punishment has been meted to whole tribes indiscriminately. Now taleban have other people as well (non pashtun) like the hard core elements (most dangerous of them) now are basically the Punjabi taleban.
Some people here are as hell bent on hating America as the Tea Party is on defending it. Yes, the American **government **has made colossal mistakes in the last few decades but the Taliban are not exactly good for Afghanistan. The Soviets and Americans have ruined the country with their proxy wars.
I am happy that the war might end, and people will stop dying because of American invasions, but for the people of Afghanistan there is a long way to go towards rebuilding their country to what it was before the proxy wars.
As for the Bush quotes: they're obviously lies meant to appease idiotic right wingers. Everyone knows America is hypocritical.
Its not necessarily hating America, many people hate their policies which smack of arrogance, lack of care for other peoples lives and hypocrisy as well. Like they want Pakistan to continue their operations against the taleban but on the other hand they themselves are going for peace talks with them. The continuous war in this region has brought nothing but destruction, it started from Afghanistan and now the economy and social fabric of Pakistan has also been destroyed as a consequence. I hope the war finishes as soon as possible, so that both countries afghanistan and Pakistan can sit together to solve their problems democratically.
This war can continue for another 50 years but there will be no solution to it, as is evident that the poor Afghans are in war for the past 33 years already and 10 years in Pakistan (40000 people killed) we all need a break now. Besides before this war alqaeda was present in Afghanistan now it has spread to almost all muslim countries (Pakistan, Iraq, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen, Libya etc).
This is random eh: “And you all also may remember that early on, I said if you hide a terrorist, if you feed a terrorist, if you provide comfort to a terrorist, you’re just as guilty as the terrorist. The Taliban now knows what we mean. They’re gone. And, guess what? People in Afghanistan don’t miss them one bit.” – George W. Bush rallies the troops in Alaska on 2/16/02
Or this: “And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.” – George W. Bush, 9/20/01
Representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban are planning to hold direct talks in Saudi Arabia as part of efforts aimed at ending the decade-long insurgency and bringing peace and stability to the war-torn South Asian nation, media reports citing senior Afghan officials said late on Sunday.
**where were the hypocrites of saudi arabia when the people of afghanistan where being bombed with shock and awe tactics by the Americans?
**
now they come to the scene and decide to open their mouths like the munafiqeen that they are. I suspect the americans told them to invite them to saudi because saudi regime are that dumb they can’t do anything on their own.
where were the hypocrites of saudi arabia when the people of afghanistan where being bombed with shock and awe tactics by the Americans?
They were drooling at the chance of selling more oil for the war machinery.
Well, it was pompous talk. But now Americans are coming to senses. They want to get out of Afghanistan now. And they are now ready to talk to Taliban with or without Afghan government.
This quick departure may result in resurgence of Talibanic extremism in Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is the worry.
The US can afford to have Taliban government in Afghanistan, but Afghan people and Pakistan can’t. Taliban’s success in Afghanistan will result in increase of pressure of Talibanic extremism on Pakistan as well.
Just like that... US didn't want 'remove Taliban', US only invaded Afghanistan to get AlQaeda,
About the objectives of Afghanistan war, I think the US really wanted to get rid of Taliban, besides destroying Qaeda.
They pretty much succeeded in their latter cited objective but have failed in the former objective of getting rid of Taliban.
Now Americans realize that destroying Taliban is a long struggle. And they don't see the reason to spend so much time and money to achieve this objective.
Besides, Israel and their Zionist supporters are not interested in Afghanistan or Taliban either.

Saudis will do anything to keep America's favor so that they continue to keep their luxurious life-styles. The hell with this emotional talk of Baitul Muqaddas and bombing of Muslim countries.
Remember the incident when Saudis gave a way out for Raymond Davis by suggesting to use the Qasas law to free him from Pakistan's custody. It does not matter what Raymond was doing in Pakistan. Saudi's Zionist American masters can always rely on their Saudi sycophants.

Ah so you admit that the Taliban were indeed the enemy. And it took you only one week to learn you can't rewrite history. A lesson well learned me thinks.
^ Taliban was the enemy of the US only because they were harboring Qaeda. Otherwise US has been in bed with similar pre-historic regimes in the Middle East, for example Saudis.
Unfortunately, that’s real life. America sends its troops to the slaughter and Pakistan or the Taliban will do the same. Most politicians are scumbags, I won’t argue with you on that.
I guess its also real life for the US government to decide 10 years later that the Taliban are no longer the enemy and make up false statements that they were never the enemy.
^ the thing is that Afghanistan has been in the line of fire for thousands of years. Due to its strategic location it has always been important. Its amazing that super powers of every period have attacked Afghanistan and in the end have to go back empty handed. The thing is that the Americans and its allies might consider them to be ‘saviours of Afghans’ but for a very big population they are nothing but occupiers, that’s the reason for the insurgency to go on and on. The Brits have tried to win over the Afghan territory for a hundred years but couldnt conquer them, the Russians tried and lost, the Americans knew about the Afghan history but still they attacked Afghanistan with all their might and now this is the result after using the latest equipment in Afghanistan for over 10 years.
After spending trillions of dollars and losing around 3000 soldiers, the Americans have suddenly realised (after 10 years) that the taleban were not the enemies. Hence the rush for exiting the country!
The Americans have destroyed the whole region in their pursuit of strategic objectives. The Afghans are fighting for the past 33 years and they will keep on fighting for another 100 if the Western countries have the ability economically as well as the strength to keep receiving dead bodies of their soldiers.
