U.S. firm insults Hindu Gods

NEW DELHI: India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday
condemned the denigration of Hindu gods by a Seattle-based company in
the United States.

In a statement, party Vice-President Pyarelal Khandelwal said the
company was marketing toilet seats under its “Sacred Seat Collection”
with images of Hindu gods Ganesh and Kali . He described it as “a
contemptible thing to be strongly condemned by all.”

He said a group of people was deliberately denigrating Hindu gods, even
as the United Nations General Assembly had recently adopted a resolution
on equality of religions. The group was fully aware of the fact that
Ganesh and Kali were held sacred by Hindus all over the world.

“What could be the motive? Is it to express their intolerance for a
religion, different from their own? Or they hope to do bumper business
by raking up a controversy with their product?,” the party asked and
said that from every aspect it was condemnable.

Urging the US Government to keep in check religious intolerance, the BJP
hoped that Hindus would not stoop low to reply in the same language and
“ignore such abominable act with the utter contempt it deserves.”

Senior party leader J.P. Mathur said there seemed to be a link between
the campaigners of anti-Christian propaganda and those now indulging in
denigrating Hindu Gods.

“Can this group dare to do it with any other religion?” he asked.

This happens more often than it should. Honestly, I don’t think these people are intentionally denigrating Hinduism or Islam, but I think they are trying to make a quick buck. Many things Hindu are becoming chic, and the cunning business man will try to take advantage of them. Previously, a company printed images of some Hindu Gods on sandals. I’m sure you know that Hindus regard shoes are dirty, and take them off at every religious function (I’m not sure if Muslims enter a mosque with shoes, so I can’t comment on that). There was a niteclub in Chicago that had statues of Krishna in the middle of the nudie dance area. The list goes on and on.

American Hindus protest as well. One focal group is the “American Hindus Against Defamations”, or AHAD. Their website is:
