I say people are right, Halaku_khan a new member on gupistan disagrees.
People have a right to say what goes in theoir backyards /neighborhoods.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

US should remove the Consulate from Karachi... or relocate it to Jacobabad or something. Its just a friggin' nuisance in the middle of city. They already have a fortress-like embassy in Islamabad. Why do they need more consulates? Visa shiza tau lagaatay nahi. Le jayein utha ke. Hamein kiya faida.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Are you serious Karachi is a big port city and needs consulate for business purposes to help international corporations.
But I agree with the protestors it should not be in residential area put it next to Quiad azams minar or that dome thingy.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

"Quiad azam" doesn't have any "minar" in Karachi. And if you are talking about his mazaar.. its also in a pretty central location. American Consulates should be built on islands, preferably. They are jinxed and they are bad news. I am sure if we look hard, we can find them an island in the Arabian ocean, maybe 100 miles or so off-shore. Very secure location. Security A-One! :biggthumb

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Hey put it on minora and even invite the seals they can teach our young ducks a few tricks. Now thats secure.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

We need consulates and more consulates in Pakistan. We need our FBI and CIA and special ops agents crawling the streets. More the merrier.. :k:

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

this is like right next to my house

chath pe khari hoon toh sab nazar aye ke amreeki consulate ke ahaatay mein kya kya ho raha hae :dixsi:

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

You and your transliteration are gonna send me to lunatic assylum doll :D, my lil mithai :D:D
Lets hear it from you, would you like it to be in your neighborhood?
It=Consulate

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

eww stop calling me all that !!! :yukh:

YUCK! :hoonh:

khair, i dont really care abt the consulate. i’ve got other worries in my life. who cares. make the consulate, dont make the consulate, SANNUU KEEE??? i dont think its a big issue. and i dont have any aye or nay opinion on it :stuck_out_tongue:

mera toh yahi mashwara ho ga ke banana chahtay haen toh bananay dayn, saying NO sounds like we’re rude gher mehmaan nawaaz ppl

as for the security issue: zindagi mot Allah ke haathon mein hae, i dont think consulate se koi fark parna hae us pe

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

^^ Sweetie :D I think ppl in your neighborhood (the protestors) are scared that in an event of a terorist attack their neighborhood would be affected, plus due to tighter security all the booze and pot smoking friendly neighbors of yours are gonna be affected as well. Hun meh-nu daas dhe-ay SAnu Kee/ YA Sanu HAy

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Well it IS next to a school, that too the poshest school in Karachi, Karachi Grammar School, so that IS a security issue in some ways. Benazir and Bilawal have also been students of this school. I have been too actually :p But at that time it was in a different location.

Hmmmmm.

On the other hand, if the consulate is made there then kamazkam that NAALA (stinky drain) over there will get fixed, most prolly the roads in our area will improve as well. The kachra (garbage) in the area will also be cleaned up.

Why would the booze and pot smoking neighbors be affected? They're prolly gonna continue with all that consulate or no consulate. There's a wine shop like 10 minutes walk from this location!!! I doubt its gona close coz of this.

One thing though: If the parents of the kids in this school really DONT want the consulate there then it WONT be made there COZ they are big time influential people.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Hey tell me abut this wine shop, Ithought booze is illegal (andI know it is) so how come there is a shop selling wine, what about beer and sctoch can I just walk in buy and wlak out. Sith like this doesnt exist in islamabd or lahore, you gotta have connections to get liquor. I want to unleash some mullahs over that wine store.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

I wanna unleash some mullahs on that wine store too  Afsos toh bas ye hae ke some of the mullahs R the biggest customers

hanJi the shop owner got a special license from Zardari himself :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know about the buying procedure or about beer and scotch, I haven’t been there you know :hoonh:

But I have heard that anyone can get stuff from there if they pay the money…!

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

You should dig up the cab driver that harrassed you and put him on this wine store. Yeh Kya Mazaq heh, We are after all in the "islamic Republic of Pakistan" and Constitutionally speaking alcohol is a banned item. This pisses me of maybe I should have paid some money to zardari and he would have cleaned the consitiution lableing non-muslims as third class citizens.
What a joke this Pakistan country is. Bunch of Hypocrites.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

I think US should close all diplomatic centers in Karachi, and move all its diplomatic and consulate staff to interior Sindh, in places like Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana with branches in Nawab Shah, Nowsehera Feroz, Dadu, and Ghotiki, and US information centers in Khairpur, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Matti and Thatta. It will solve a couple of major problems. #1, it will reduce the number of Urdu speaking population to migrate to USA (there are way too many Bhiyas in the US, and not enough “real” Sindhis) and #2, those who want to go for US Consular services will go and see some of the Sindh that they never bother to go and visit, while they are so friggin eager to come and see Amrikkkka.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Madhanee uncle :rotfl: Visas are granted only in Isloo for many years now so shifting the consulate to interior Sindh won’t help much in regards to the acute problems you have mentioned about the “bhayas” TSK looks like you’ll have to keep tolerating them  Lekin I don’t have any probs w/ that suggestion of yours abt shifting the consulate!

:jhanda:

Verizon it angers me too. Specially when I see young boys outside that shop. But KEE KARIYE??? The only thing we can do is give our youth the right tarbeeyat at home and set good examples as parents/siblings and hope they won’t venture near the stuff. After all, temptation is everywhere, tomorow if they go to America or Europe its going to be around them too, so in the end its about resisting temptation and having strong character/morals. However, its really sad to see wine shops open up in the middle of a Muslim country. I hate the sight/thought of it.
But that doesn’t give you the right to diss Pakistan or label all of us Pakistanis as hypocrites :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Irem Baji, I was not serious. I was being critical of the people protesting about US consulate moving into their hood. It’s not as if it is a High security prison or a red light center that is moving. It is a consulate for crying out loud. They are our Mehman in our country, and you know how much Allah :swt: tells us to be good to our Mehmans? What if the Amrikans tell Pakistanis to move out their Consulate from New York and take it to Alaska, how would that feel like? I think US should be able to open a Consulate in a place of their choosing.

:jhanda:

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Just a thought.

How 'bout those affluent folks use their influence to marginalize and rid the country of those who would bomb an American consulate with no regard for the innocents who get in the way.

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

Madhanee uncle, who said I was serious? And I was concerned about the issue of mehmaan-navazi too, and I mentioned that in my initial post too. The people also do have a point though about security though because there have been many incidents of terrorism around the American consulate in Karachi earlier, I’m sure you’ll recall. So maybe they are scared about the safety of their kids, the plot of land is right next to the school. Khayr I live right there too and I think zindagi mot and safety is in Allah’s hands but I do understand the concern/apprehension of the protesting parents.

I agree with you though that since this is a foreign mission, and we are the hosts, the right way would have been to discreetly approach the administration and raise these concerns rather than a public protest, but you know desis ka har baat mein shor machana zaroori hota hae :smack:

Re: U.S Consulate in Karachi Pakistan --protests

^^ uncle Storch you need balls to do what you said. Maybe US consulate can give them some lessons in having guts/garbanzos to standup to a few thathave hijackedtheir country and religion.
