its called redundancy and distribution of information, and isn't all that amazing or unique to human brains. even something as trivial as your music CD has it. scratch it mildly, and you lose nothing even though you have physically removed material that stores data.
what if we make 8-10 slices of cd, would it be able to contain whole image of information??
