This is basically a continuation of the thread on Shoaib Mansoor’s thread where someone mentioned that Mr Mansoor will probably go into directing a movie, next.
Regardless of how true is that rumor, what do you think is the target audience for a movie producer (who is putting in money for the project) and the movie director and script writer when they conceptualize a movie and execute it?
If they make an intelligent movie, with less of the masala stuff will they be able to recover their money?
Or to put it in another way, who is a typical audience for a Pakistani movie? Is it the blue collar truck driver, raihri walay, shop-owners, mazdoor who are willing to spend a few rupees once a month who form the bulk of movie-goers in Pakistan? Or is it the parhi likhi class of people who appreciate a refined, intelligent movie?
i think that more than 70% of the movie goers in pakistan are the blue collar rikshaw driver, truck driver, "raihri walay" so forth and so on.
since i've lived in both Islamabad and Karachi (islamabad mostly and recently) i can tell u that the islamabad has a better percentage of perhi likhi class going to movies than Karachi or any other city in pakistan.

Shoaib Mansoor's film is gonna be dope. YEH BARAF HAMARI HAI. it gon be dope man
And lets keep this discussion focussed on Pakistani movies. You can talk/trash Indian movies in the gazillion threads which are there, or start another. Thanks! :-)
I'M KOOL: When you talk about Islamabad, are you talking about parhi likhi class going to movies, per se.. Or english movies?
I know many people in my group would regularly visit cinemas to watch the latest Hollywood blockbuster, but will never watch a Pakistani flick. And right now, I want to discuss Pakistani movies.
Sorry Faisal couldn’t resist. If I may add my two bits, I think if the gentleman is going to make a classy movie he should target the upwardly mobile and definitely the NRP’s. There is more money to be made through 50,000 people in the US than 5 mill in Pak. Also, if there is going to be good music, the music rights alone will write off at least half his investment. I’m guessing the investment will be around RS 1cr- 2 cr only, as that is the lowest you can go for an art film.
ahaaaaaaaaaaaaah really funny but i’m not the one that watches indian movies. just look at urname karina what an indian name. there u have it collar less ppl

funny how people are able to come up with such accurate statistics.
Faisal bhai I think the movies are targetted mostly towards the non-burger Pakistani male all inclusive. Females hardly ever watch Pakistani movies coz they don't go to the normal public cinemas and new Pakistani movies don't come on TV.
Actually the kind of movies Pakistan cinema produced for so long and is still producing is/was the main reason that families stopped going to movies. Since then most of the people going to the cinema are etiher the rikshaw drivers and raihray waley along with college drop outs incase the movie gets good reviews so the families dont even want to go there even if the movie sounds good. The kinda croud that goes to the movies is the first and foremost reason now that people dont want to go to the cinema.
We are always hearing producers/directors and all the people related to films commenting how bad the film industry is and they are making an effort to improve it, well someone also gotta make an effort about the "mahool" of the cinema's. Even if the movie seems really cool only a handful of people would go to the theater to see it. I remember a couple of times some nice movie came out and though my friends mom really wanted to see that movie she waited until the movie came out on VHS and then rent it.
So I think it really doesnt matter what kinda movie Shoaib Mansoor makes, what matters is will he be able to convince educated people to come to the theaters. If we have better quality, clean theaters I think we might be able to attract more people. We should definatley apply the rule of "No Shirt No Shoe No Service" in theaters. People want to come to see a movie to relax, enjoy and get entertained, if Pakistan cinema cant provide that completley why would someone wanna go there??

Can u see the word "think" in my post???
That's exactly what u should do before doing anything!
Faisal: By that, i did mean pakistani movies only. Many of my friends (They weren't truck drivers) used to go to movies (pakistani) once in like 6 months.
