curious about another one...what is patta ka kaam??

Re: types of kaam

Great! This is very informative. I love "Saa-rose-kee" kaam :P I think there is something called "stone-work" also, like i just know of 1 called "feroza" i think which is the ferozi (blue) color stone. Can anyone post more pics with names of stone work on clothes?

Re: types of kaam

OMG, what a great thread! I never really understood the differences!

Re: types of kaam

i knew it i knew :D

Re: types of kaam

You know another guide that might be helpful is a guide to the different types of stones and sequins. Like I didn't know until fairly recently that AB crystals are the iridescent ones!

Re: types of kaam

^Hmm, yeh. Will work on it unless someone else beats me to it.

Re: types of kaam

Can someone tell me what sort of kaam type this one is:

I’m getting a bit tired of zardosi, kora, etc…

Re: types of kaam

i love this thread!!!! so convenient since I am getting all my clothes made with pictures since im abroad!! there is one kaam me and my mother despise and i have to tell the karigar not to do that on any .. cant find the name ... can u guys help me with it

its looks like small pipes ie, naliyan :D and after wearing them theyre distorted very easily ... it doesnt look like dabka work since dabka work looks very very well and a solid kinda work .. the one im talking about is bright golden and u can literally put it out if you want!

Re: types of kaam

very informative :k:

Re: types of kaam

It sounds like dabka. Dabka is metal pipes and it can come in all colours, including bright gold. It's only solid if its stitched well but even then, because it's metal and the "pipes" have been cut from a longer pipes, the ends can be sharp and can catch and unravel it.

Also, it depends where it's used; it will catch more on the sleeves. It could also be naqshi - an angular type of dabka, which unravels more easily.

If you do mixed kaam, with touches of dabka here and there you should be fine. What you need to watch out for is diamantes in metal holders - the claws catch easily.

Re: types of kaam

do you have any pics of ribbon work?

what type of kaam is this?

Re: types of kaam

Re: Types of kaam

What type of kaam is best for baby girl desi clothes, other than Gota? like something that looks good, has a smooth feel and is non-scratchy.

Re: Types of kaam

this is an incredible thread! so informative.
id like to add more queries though in terms of material:

  1. what is shamooz and how is it compared to silk? which is better?
  2. what is ka*****? is it a type of cotton?
  3. is indian georgette the same as pakistani georgette?
