Tying a Chignon

I have shoulder length straight hair. Can you provide me with a step by step instruction on how to tie a chignon. I have trouble getting my hair to stay up because it is very fine and silky. :frowning:

Many thanks!

Re: Tying a Chignon

I know how to do it in theory but in practice it's harder than I thought and I end up getting my hairdresser to do it for me. I think it might be easier to do on someone elses hair rather than your own.

Freshly washed hair is always harder to style in an 'updo' though.

Re: Tying a Chignon

How do you pronounce that weird word? Chignon?

Re: Tying a Chignon

I just call it a french pleat.

Re: Tying a Chignon

Spray it lightly with hairspray then do it while it is still damp. It will hold it better and stay longer. My daughter has a LOT of hair and it is all long, silky, and fine. Took a long time to figure out what really worked on her. Hopefully it will work on you.

Isnt a Chignon, a fancy bun?

Either way its too hard to do by yourself.

Re: Tying a Chignon

Shahreen: Theory sounds so much easier! Tie the hair in a ponytail. Take one end and tie it around the base. By the time I get the left hand away from the base, half of the hair has already slipped away from the bun. grr It might work better I pour half a bottle of oil on my hair. :D

I was shocked to see how much hair I had lost in my last attempt.

It is pronounced… shenyon
