Two U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Two U.S. special forces soldiers were killed and another wounded Saturday when their four vehicle patrol was attacked in southern Afghanistan, U.S. military officials said.

The soldiers were ambushed in the vicinity of Geresk, an area known to be friendly to the Taliban, the officials said.

The convoy came under fire from unknown assailants using small arms, machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.

It happened around 4 p.m. local time.

Two US special forces soldiers have been killed and another wounded in an ambush in southern Afghanistan, the US military said.

A statement from the US forces’ base in Afghanistan said the soldiers were on a reconnaissance patrol in Helmand province when they were attacked.

Helmand intelligence chief Dad Mohammed Khan said three Afghan soldiers were also wounded in the incident.
