Two Tomahawk cruise missiles misfired and landed in an unpopulated area of Turkey on Sunday. A US defence official admitted the mistake but said there were no reported injuries. Another US defence official said the incident was not surprising, given that thousands of Tomahawks had been launched in the past days. “Out of the thousands of Tomahawks that have been launched, you’re bound to have a few that malfunction,” the official said. The Tomahawk is a stubby-winged, precision-guided, long-range cruise missile that can be fired from a submarine, destroyer or cruiser. News of the misfires came via a local governor in Turkey, who said a suspected missile fell near a village in eastern Turkey not far from the Iraqi border. The governor said it left a large hole in agricultural fields but did not cause any injuries.
They missed a whole country. They also got Iran, hitting a couple of government buildings. Above everything they could hit, government buildings in another country?! Is it truly "misfire"?
Well we've had misfiring US missiles landing in Pakistan, Iran, Syria and now Turkey. The one that blew the British jet out of the sky though, Im not sure that was a mistake. They tend to hit the brits too regularly for it to be a coincidence.

I don't think many in the UK believe the American's shot down the RAF jet accidently, in fact those Brits I have talked to are livid at the American's.
But regardless of that I heard Blair being more American than the American's in the House of Commons just a couple of hours ago bluntly warning Turkey to stay out of the war i.e. to stop invading. Maybe this attack was a warning?

at $1mil a pop, if they can be jammed by a $10 Iraqi radio contraption then the US needs to seriously rethink the whole deal with LM and Raytheon.

Iraqi contraption? Try Russian, I should have made myself more clear before.

We turks are waiting patiently to give lesson to british how to fight in war field and to revenge what they did to turks in ww1. I laughed too much when I heard such silly words from puppet Blair. There are 2.5 million turkomans in north iraq, what about british? Are there british in iraq? Such silly comments triggers national proud of turks who are ready to give a good lesson to Blair and british army. They drove away turks from middle east in ww1 to exploit there and to create Israel, but now turkish army will be there to drive away british from there so that they will not be able to exploit again oil fields and oil fields will belong only to iraqi ppl....Insallah British army will try to prevent turkish army entering iraq so that we will have chance to fight with british.

Iraqi jammers will cause bombs to turn off course.

The Russian toys have a very limited range of efficacy. Turkey is very much out of that range. Anyway, what the Russians sold them were jammers for laser guided munitions, these go off GPS.
I think the missles in Iran were to test their reaction. See the extent of their tolerance...
Turkish EU membership “unthinkable” with Iraq invasion
An invasion by Turkey in Iraq could threaten Ankara’s hopes of joining the European Union. The Belgian foreign minister Louis Michel demanded pressure to be put on Turkey to stop it carrying out such an action.
Speaking to RTL-TVi, Mr Michel said “it is unthinkable that Turkey becomes a member of the EU, if it invades Kurdistan.”
The EU’s foreign policy chief Javier Solana also expressed strong views on Turkish troops in Iraq. In an interview with Die Welt, he says:
“One thing the 15 EU governments particularly stressed about these support measures was that the territorial integrity of Iraq must not be called into question. We made this very very clear to our Turkish friends,”
A reference to Iraq’s territorial integrity is made in last week’s Spring Council conclusions.

The West Europeans have been coming up with excuse after excuse for not letting Turkey in. I mean, they are going to admit a divided Cyprus?! What the hell is that?
Turkey, by population would be the largest country in the EC. Under the parliamentary system in place that would give Turkey more votes than any other. It's economy has more potential than even Germany - and since stabilization after the last Gulf War they have been giving good growth rates, over 6% last year.
Just like France opposes America on Iraq not because of any simple interests rather for a broader geopolitical one, Europe opposes Turkey's admission because it would drastically alter the geopolitical dynamic. The Kurds are an afterthought.
