its a balance between being a good professional and also pursuing what is important.
companies are known to rescind offers, lay people off soon after hiring them etc etc etc
and its just business, nothing personal…
typically, if i am in that dilemma, I would try to delay the decision and be very frank that its a big decision and you want to be sure..

I would personally advise against accepting job offer A right away. I’d stall the acceptance for as long as possible and in the meanwhile contact company B for an update/ETA on their decision and provide an indication that you have another offer. Don’t burn your bridges with company A by accepting then ditching them - you never know when you or someone else you know might cross paths with this company again.

You two are very nice folks , but it is dog eats dog world out there being very nice does not pay many a times. You have to act as a heartless corporation behaves they make decisions based on their business needs and would not blink twice when they need to lay off someone.
Similarly and individual has the right to say goodby when there is a need to do so.
As you two know they say in USA employment is at will . The employer has the right to let anybody go anytime without specifying a reason and an employee also has the same right.
Now for Nomi since job A is out of your league and you will not go back to company A begging for your job back if things do not turn out right a Company B , there is no harm in accepting this offer and wait for company B and then dump them as appropriate.
