Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
I agree Ghazal,
this was a huge shock. Sundance was on the edge all the time but he too was way way better than Sanjaya. Esp looking at the way he performed on the goodbye song; was just amazing, very strong voice.
Sanjaya is in the wrong place, thanks to the reason m2k mentioned above. He'll have to show if he's got anything competitive enough against the other 11, or wait for what should have happened now till next week, or bizarrely enough, week after that, or after that...? I wouldnt underestimate the power of the desi vote now...but i hope voters are fair and remember this is abt singing...
I think Sanjaya has a big fan base in America, that's why he get'a ll the votes.
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
As sweet as Sanjaya may be, he does not deserve to be in the final 12 and he knows it. Did you see the shock on his face? Sundance and Sabrina were both way better than him.
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
^ yup. He was shocked in almost every episode. I loved what Simon said: "was the volume low?". I'm not a fan of Sundance but I'm sure he is better than Sanjaya. I can't stand sanjaya anymore because Sabrina could have been in competition instead of him! =\ His performance has been BAD ever since he got in top 24. I really hope not another good singer is voted off while singers like Sanjaya stay in.
I'm scared for Lakisha though. It was heartbreaking to see singers like Mandisa being voted off [last year]. Hope Lakisha stays for long. People have to be fair and understand its a singing competition not a beauty pageant!
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
I think that American Idol realizes the reason for Sanjaya's stay (Desi Voters). I think that this is one of the reasons they have brought in the Donation thingy in the picture for the next episod - they will match some monetary percentage on every phone call made to vote. This will ensure more and real American votes. I think Sanjaya will be out for sure in the this week (the week of 3/12), unless he actually shows some personality and talent instead of whispering while singing.
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
American Idol is being shown in the UK as well but normally we'd see it quite a while later. Howeva it seems to b shown around the same time as in the USA and Canada which is pretty cool. Sorry but the men this yr arnt very good. The girls r strong. Howeva Sanjaya is pretty bad. I neva was a sundance fan. All that crying he did last week really was too much. I think Sanjaya'll b gone soon.
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
I hope he is gone as well as he is HORRIBLE!! Every time he is not voted off I am going those desi girls are voting for him and making their mummys vote too which is HORRID as he totally sucks!!
This year it seems the people that have been voted off have been pretty decent singers and the people that have stayed on in place of them have been quite bad vocally. Not sure how America is voting this year. I think Sanjaya will be a Kelly Pickler of last year. He'll stay on until the top 6 or 7 and we would all have NO IDEA why that's the case.
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
Pride or Racism?A while ago I had a post
(http://o3.indiatimes.com/meragussa2/archive/2006/11/20/2658556.aspx) on how Indians and other immigrants got together and voted out Senator George Allen after he made some racist remarks against Indians. It was clearly a moment of pride and a proof that democracy works and that any community can get together and fight back. But the same proud Indian immigrants seem to be charging down a very different path now.
A TV show called American Idol (I believe there is an Indian version too) is vastly popular in the US. In the latest series (currently running) a singer of Indian origin, Sanjaya Malakar, has been doing exceptionally well. Hmmm, is he? Actually no. He is extremely talented, only 17 years old. Kudos to him. But compared to the competetion his performance sucks. Let me say it again. His performance sucks.
Depsite his poor performance in comparison to his competitors he keeps making it to the next round. Why? How? Well the competition is based on votes from the general public. The Indian/Indian origin population in the US is going all out to support Sanjaya. In fact there was even a blogger on O3 who promoted the idea of voting for Sanjaya even though he/she admitted Sanjaya had inferior talent. The rules of the game allow any person to cast as many votes he or she wishes to. The voter has to pay for voting. Everywhere I go the Indian community is all ga-ga about Sanjaya and their support for him. And yes, they even admit that he is not as talented as his competitors. Yet they vote for him, multiple times, paying for each vote.
I personally find it despicable and yet so predictable that we Indians have once again risen to show our true colours. I am waiting for the moment when the US media brings to light the biased Indian voting on this show and then the retalliation of the Indian population in the US calling the US media racist. See the irony? I guess not
Ah! yes, not just racist, we are hypocrites too. Now that I am done venting, I should go vote for Sanjaya. NOT!!!
Re: Two Indian kids make it through to the next round in AmericanIdol
Though I have never been in US, I guess, there are not many occasions when a common person from subcontinent makes it big on a famous shows- enough to draw attention of wetserners.
Many south asians might be feeling a sense of being identified and appreciated through this participant. So they vote.
