**Two men have been arrested in the US state of New Jersey in connection with the deaths of five teenagers in 1978.**The case had mystified police, which for years treated their disappearance as a case of missing persons.
But now the suspects - Lee Evans, 56, and Philander Hampton, 53 - have been charged with arson and murder.
Officials said the five teenagers had been taken to an abandoned house which was then burnt down, in apparent retaliation for stealing marijuana.
The victims - Melvin Pittman, Ernest Taylor, Alvin Turner, Randy Johnson and McDowell - were last seen in August 1978. Their bodies were never found.
“The mystery has now been solved,” prosecutor Robert Laurino told reporters in Newark on Tuesday.
He showed pictures of the two suspects, saying each had been held on $5m bail.
“More than likely, they did believe this was behind them,” Mr Laurino said.
