How do you deal with people that are two faced, “matlabi” and only in it because they want something?
Re: Two Faced People
by staying away?
Re: Two Faced People
i dont think you can ever change those kind of people and i also think alot of people are two faced, the only thing you can change is your reaction to how the act or what they do.
So try not to be frustrated by their actions and try and be as diplomatic and neutral towards them.

Yeh even if you have relatives that you meet on and off. You kind of get that look on their face and you feel disgusted. :-P
Re: Two Faced People
Well first recognize them. Secondly, dont give them any benefit.
Always think- why somebody is extra friendly.

Its sad really to think like that?! I always want to be friends with everyone yet on many circumstances I have found that people only see you worthy if you have something they want! Sad really.
Re: Two Faced People
I know what you mean my MIL and SIL are both like this. I dunno why my MIL is extremely possesive she refers to my children as her babies and always makes sure to tell me that my hubby used to come to Pakistan every 2 months now he only comes once a year she blames me for this. In front of everyone she acts like the sweetest MIL in the world but behind closed doors her and my SIL have said some things about me that have come to my attention within the past year things like i am not a good mother because i had my children so close in age.
Its frustating and makes me want to scream at times but what can i do i will just have to put my faith in the almighty and try to stay away from them
Re: Two Faced People
I had this 'friend' at school. I was a high achiever back then, and very naive when it came to people and relationships. There was this girl, who used to try to be very nice, she started talking to me more, and generally I though she was a guddun. She used to ask me about my revision techniques, borrow my stuff all the time, ask me about this and that..like all the details in my life and compliment me alot. I noticed that she started copying me too, in her academic style. I kind of clocked on then what was going on, she was just using me to better herself. Behind my back, she was going and telling people I was a nerd, and badmouthing me.
I cant be asked with these people anymore.. so I just stay away from them. They're always after something, trying to suss you out. Never show weakness, even if they are really pissing you off or making you upset, keep that smile on your face, be indifferent. It'll show the punks where to go :)
Re: Two Faced People
I'm lucky in this regard in the sense that I've always been able to judge people quickly for who they are.
Basically, all you can do is stay the hell away from them.....
I know some people who are really really nice in front of our family but they've spread more than their share of rubbish gossip!
Re: Two Faced People
ah! the two faced people....difficult to decide which face to slap first

And when it comes to kissing, there are two to be kissed ;)
Re: Two Faced People
Depends on which "category" the 2 faced person belongs to:
1) Friends: I cut them out of my life.
2) Co-worker: I "deal" with it b/c it's work. I'm polite but try to avoid them as much as possible.
3) MY family: I have aunts that're like this and I ignore them. It was different then I was younger...but now being an adult, I really don't care if they think I'm rude. At family events I will say "salaam" and if they ask me any questions, I'll answer with as few words as possible. But otherwise I avoid/ignore them. Due to my lack of conversation, tone of voice when I do say something, and facial expressions....certain relatives have gotten the message that I dislike them and these days, they usually ignore me too.
4) IF any future in-laws were like this: I'd put up with it at family events for the sake of hubby and continue to be polite. And in private I would discuss my feelings with hubby.

Mclover
So do I. But for your safeguard sake you have to. Being smart does not imply you have no friends. It just means you expend your resources on the right ones.

Why would you deal with them, if they are matlabi, in the first place?

1) What if they dont cut you out of their life?! They keep calling you or asking you if you want to go out! And everytime they you say "no" in a polite way they blackmail you infront of your other friends saying its your fault.
2) What if you have to work with them on the same desk! What if they bad mouth you infront of others? Do you retaliate?
