This year as usual, we will witness two Eids
in the United States.
- Based on Moon sighting in our region
- Based on Moon sighted in anywhere in the
World.
Which apprach is better and why? What do you

Dear Abrar,
I have not that much knowledge about the religious topics but I think Eid should be based on Moon sighting in your region because it is the matter of islamic month which is off cource depends upon the Moon sighting region to region. As you offer your prayer according to movment of sun in your region not anywhere in the world
If you know somthing about this please let me know about this.
Assalam O Alaikum
Brother Ibrar, i also don't know the exact verdict in this regard, but, i heard some where that since Muslims are one ummah so all the Muslims in the World can celebrate Eid on the same day i.e. when Eid is declared in the Capital of the Muslim Ummah, which was Makkah before. But celebrating Eid according to the region is also accepted by Scholars.
Wallah O Alam
Assalam O Alaikum.
Two eids are natural in so many different time zones.
Dear Brothers and Sisters!!
I think that since Ialam very clerly says that new month begins with the sigthening of new moon .. then there is ni question about it .. defintely this year ramazan was started a day earlier in lots of states in USA .. instead of 20th dec .. it started on the 19th ... but then others did start on the 20th dec.. anyways.. i know that if we are short on roza the imam will announce to keep extra roza right after eid .. this has happend here before and i wont be surprised if it happens again and again... Well in a nut shell... Every month begins with the sigthening of new moon... in the region where we are .. not any where in the world.. I wish the Mulana's could realiza this as well .... Appreicate ya all patiece for reading this :)) Happy Ramazan and Happy New Yeah
Assalam-o-Alaicum
Thanks for giving your inputs on the issue.
My view is that we should have a Shura for
North America ( ISNA+ICNA+.....). All Muslim
organizations should choose a shura for moon
sighting, and they should decide based on
moon sighting in North America ( US &
Canada). In my area, all imams got togather,
and they decided to follow SA, etc. Now as
we can see that according to the moon, we
are one day ahead. When it comes to the
night of power, we may miss it(according to
the moon physical appearence).
As brother say, we might have to make up one
fasting after Eid day. Wallah-u-Aalam
Dear Abrar, Asalaam alykum
You should think your self to be fortunate - here where I live in East London, England we have a difference of opinion between the local mosques over the sighting of the moon again as in the USA some started on the 19th and others started on the 20th. So like youselves we will be having two Eids in the same 1/2 mile radius.
Our local mosque started on the 20th - the reason they gave for this was that there was no possiblity of the moon being sighted for the required period of time on the evening of the 18th either here in England or anywhere else in the World (including Saudi Arabia) - they had checked this out with the people at the Greenwich Observatory. The people who started on the 19th went by the decision from Saudi Arabia (I do not know how they came to their decision - but at a guess it could be that the previous month would have ended up having 31 days - but please do not quote me on this).
Although it would have been a 'new moon' on the 18th - from my understanding it has to be visible to the naked eye and that would not have been possible until the 19th.
If I am incorrect on this - then can someone please correct me on this.
