Twitter - What up with that?

I’m not a huge a huge fan of Facebook and now with Twitter use on the rise - I just don’t get it. Why do people need to give frequent updates about themselves in 140 characters or less - are we, as a society obsessed with oversharing information about ourselves?

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

its 140 characters, not 3 :smack:

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

But why Internet is Very necessary for us ? :bummer:

^ I pressed the wrong key - sue me :snooty:

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

social networking sites are the rise, from a sociological perspective, it's a new phenomena.

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

You just remind me of orkut… A few years ago orkut was people’s khana, peena, orhna, bichona :bummer:

Sure, why not. Please send me the address of your circuit court.

I love the internet - but I think of it as a tool to learn information and to a degree be connected with others.

But Twitter just seems like an unnecessary shughal. I mean, the level of minutiae I see people sharing is ridiculous. I don’t care that you:

Twitter 1: Just woke up

Twitter 2: Running late for a meeting

Twitter 3: Went to the bathroom

Twitter 4: Because I ate spicy food

Twitter 5: Meeting up with friends

Twitter 6: Sending message on Facebook

Twitter 7: Looking for matching pajamas to wear

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

it's all me me me me on twitter.

lol

I'm out of your jurisdiction - no long arm of the law rules or reciprocity for bringing a legal action :@:

Are you srious??

awww, GS can never qualify to post on twitter cause we definitely have more than 140 characters here. :(

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

^ True dat - and look at the diversity of characters we have here on GS...

Re: Twitter - What up with that?

the entire society is tied in the web of boredom. we dont see or talk to our family-friend-neighbours but we like to read their FB-twitter updates.....only cuz we are bored to death.

the entire fb constitution is based on the fact that ppl are bored with their lives...that is why even virtual farming entertains them.

Eggjactly ..

that makes us better than Twitter.

I am going to start a new social network .. where you can only send messages through kabootar ...I am thinking of calling it pigeonitter.

I was having this conversation with a colleague. Her daughter wanted a better texting plan and I couldn't understand why a kid (she's 13) needs to constantly be texting. I asked, if she wants to talk to her friends, why not just pick up the phone or better yet, go over and meet them.

I find the more tools we have to be "connected" to one another, the more distant we've become from one another - nothing can replace face-to-face communication, but we seem determined to try.
