Are there any negative effects on separated twins? From a scientific point of view?
no, not at all. i guess you are some syamese twins(wrong spelling). popular belief is that left one is the evil one but no proof.
Watch simpsons haloween special XV and you will get your answers.

What do you mean by separated? Do you mean siamese or twins that were separated to live separate from each other?
As far as Siamese are concerned, it depends what organs were shared and how late the separation did happen.
if we're talking about conjoined (siamese) twins, it depends on what limbs and organs they both share. You can imagine that if they only have a total of 2 arms, they will end up with one each.
Additionally, you must have heard about stories that one of the two needs to be sacrificed in order to safe the other. On the other hand there are also examples of twins being seperated succeffully and living a happy life
Im so sorry you guys thought I was talking about twins who are physcially attached. My bad.I meant regular twins , not conjoined twins.Lets say these twins grew up together, and are separated in their teens.Does it have negative effects on them? I mean we know they have a more 'special' bond because they're twins.Has a scientific study ever been done on them?
i don't see why the emotional relationship between twins would be different than that between two sibs.
However, it is true that if one of monozygotic twin has a disease the other generally has an increased risk of obtaining it as well, cuz of the genes
Hmm I was just wondering if their emotional states differ from those of regular siblings. No studies done on this? Ever?
Wouldnt it be interestig to see how they react once they kind of break out of the "twinship" and move on with their lives -separately?
I know that they always do studies to see the diseases in monozygotic and dizygotic twins to see the genetic influence in a disease. I know that there were some studies that were done where it showed that alcoholism has genetic linkage as the prevelance was high in monozygotic twins that grew up separately than in dizygotic twins that grew up separately. But i dont know about any study to see the emotional status after separation.
Now thats very interesting. So identical twins have higher risks then fraternal twins? Just had to write it in un- scientific language to get myself to ponder upon it.![]()
So separation -in a way- does have an affect on twins.
Are there anymore studies similar to the above?
MQ, twins have higher risks for certain things independent of whether they are seperated or not. In this example the risk of alcoholism wouldn't change if the twins are seperated or not

Actually some of the studies that I have seen were where all the other risks were elminiated. So the kids were living in different house holds and were followed for years. It was found that if other factors (like how they grow up in home, parents, friends, environment etc) were all eliminated the children who had an alcoholic father had higher prevelance of becomming alcoholic.
^so it shows personality or susceptibility for alcohol is genetic

To some extent as far as the studies show. I dont know what how biased the studies were. But there is no denying that environment does play a very important role.
By the way NeSCio what is your background? I have always seen that you have very impressive knowledge about medicine.
^I have a medical background :--)
u have been watching too many hindi movies like karan arjun mq...
Re: Twins?
How would you say which child is the left 1…if u see from the eye of that woman whose pregnant or from ur eye cuz if u see from ur side the left child would be different and from the pregnant woman the left child would be different
Re: Twins?
^this is of the same extent as when you go to the doc and say my left eye hurts ;-) there too 'left' as seen by you......i.e. left as seen by the twins.
Btw i don't believe that the left one is evil
