Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

The dugouts, the music, the dancers, the flares taking off from the scoreboards, the whole glitz and the glamour…makes the tournament seem very well thought through (the impression I get from watching on TV - ASN’s streamer really).

Just read on Cricinfo that Steve Elworthy is head of the Organizing Committee for this event. Elworthy is a former South African bowler and played for SA as recently as 5 years ago. He obviously seems to have multi-faceted talents.

Read his interview about organizing this event at : http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/twenty20wc/content/current/story/312122.html

I still have reservations about the Twenty20 format, but this whole package has made the games eminently watchable (that India has been winning also helps - in my case).

The other issue, I think, is that the success of this event will spawn several copy-cat Twenty20 events and the popularity of this format is bound to sky-rocket (BCCI has already announced one such event). Not sure if that is a good thing.

Thoughts/comments welcome.

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

So nobody thinks this topic is comment-worthy. Oh...well.

Anyways, just read this amusing bit.

Apparently, when Yuvraj hit those 6 sixes - the supply of fireworks (that are launched from the scoreboard after every SIX) got exhausted.....and the dancers (who do the energetic routines after SIXES) began to tire with so many SIXES and became less enthusiastic by the end of the over !!

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

With six sixes being hit in an over, who would want to watch fireworks and dancers anyway. All the fireworks and dancing to see were on the pitch.

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

yes i think that feeling is dominant in everybody's perception of this event
really well organized, you can see the big contrast compared to world cup in west indies

they have brought some innovative things to the game in terms of entertainment and concepts like the dugout, you can clearly see the willingness from the organizers to make the best out of the tournament and please everyone unlike the west indies world cup. hats off to them...

doesnt matter if there are any copycat events...
my main concern is that there are too many ICC events which kind of dilutes the importance. i think we should scrap ICC champions trophy completely. keep twenty20 championship (not sure how often this event should be held) and 50 over world cup (every 4 years)

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

Who pays attention to those gay cheerleaders after Misbah or Yovraj is hitting sixes and fours like crazy.

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

Dancers are unnecessary. Really, if my view of the pitch was being obstructed by the dancers, I would want my money back right away.

Re: Twenty20 WC - Very well organized - at least it seems that way

^ Good point + the dancers/loud music I feel are a distraction to players esp. batsmen trying to concentrate hard out in the middle. Maybe they should do their routines/play music between the overs or after sixes but after every boundary seems a bit over the top
