Pakistan has caught the Twenty-20 cricket bug and will hold its first domestic tournament featuring the game’s rapid one-day version later this month, an official said.
“We are pleased to announce the first ever Twenty-20 tournament in which teams from 11 regions will be competing from April 25-30,” Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan said on Friday.
Twenty-20, in which sides play 20 overs each, was introduced in England two years ago and has proved a huge success, attracting more crowds than some normal matches.
Khan said he hoped Pakistan’s experiment with the new form would be entertaining and win a big audience.
“The holding of the event will mark a new era of cricket in Pakistan and it will generate interest,” said Khan.
The 11 teams are divided in two pools of four and a third pool with three teams. The top teams from each pool will play a triangular series on April 29 followed by the final on April 30.
The winners of the inaugural Twenty-20 tournament will pocket 5,000 dollars and the runners-up will get 2,500 dollars.
Pakistan is also considering whether to hold a Twenty-20 side game when England tours here from October-December this year.
A Twenty-20 cricket match was part of Pakistans tour to Australia and Australia will also play England in a Twenty-20 game in this summer’s Ashes series.

karachi team ka aisay larki wala naam kyun hai. Lions and tigers will eat the pussy zebra's and dolphins. But, I guess I should support my home town. Go zebras and dolphins. Run like the wind.

Re: Twenty 20 in Pakistan, Come On Guys Pick a Team and Support Our Domestic Cricket
The team's name generally starts with the first letter of the City... Sialkot Stallions, Lahore Lions, Hyderabad Hawks, Rawalpindi Rams. The exceptions are Lahore Eagles, Karachi Zebras, Karachi Dolphins, Multan Tigers, Quetta Bears and Faisalabad Wolves. I suppose there aren't many animal names starting with K, Q, F, L. Faisalabad could've been Falcons, Lahore Lambs, Karachi Kangaroos & Koalas. Any suggestions for Multan and Quetta?
Re: Twenty 20 in Pakistan, Come On Guys Pick a Team and Support Our Domestic Cricket
Atlanta good to hear all that, but you shouldn’t be saying “murdabad” to anyone esp of your own “nation”… its okay to shout on top of your lungs “Karachi Zindabad” :k: , I’m a Karachiite just like you !
Re: Twenty 20 in Pakistan, Come On Guys Pick a Team and Support Our Domestic Cricket
just shame on you…i simply don’t understand how could some one SAY MURDABAD to his own motherland…may you were just kidding but again, one should be careful in selecting words to express his/her emotions…and in case, if you were not kidding and you have some “logic” for your scream, you chose a wrong forum to express your opinion…I hope I am not being rude……regards
