PESHAWAR: At least 12 persons, including five women, were killed and over 60 others sustained injuries as roofs and walls collapsed in various localities in the provincial capital during heavy rain coupled with a windstorm on Friday.
The windstorm and heavy rain caused power breakdowns in many parts of the city and rural Peshawar. A number of billboards and trees were uprooted in the storm.“At least 12 people have been killed and over 60 injured as per the initial reports as buildings collapsed in Lewanay Baba locality in Nauthia, Faqirabad, Wazir Bagh, Phandu, Barizqaan, Landay Sarak, Dir Colony and other surrounding areas,” Bilal Ahmad Faizi, spokesman for the Rescue 1122, told The News.
The official added that ambulances and rescue workers of the department were busy across the provincial capital to help the victims. He said ambulances and rescue workers were busy in taking the victims to hospitals.

Most of the PTI leaders and lawmakers had left for Islamabad to attend the “Azadi March” being staged by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.Electricity supply was suspended to most parts of the city after the windstorm as it damaged electric polls and the power cables.
The officials of the Peshawar Electric Supply were busy restoring power supply to the city and its suburbs.Meanwhile, Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan and Chief Minister Pervez Khattak expressed grief over the loss of precious lives and expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
