Re: tv, internet, media

the mother looks like white trash

A few days ago, i saw another really terrible video on the news. This was a group of kids following around one kid and they were beating him. the victim even went inside a deli to beg for help but was turned away. It was hard to see the video since there was alot of pixelliation (to protect the scumbags’ identities) but…just the idea tht u cant even get any help..it was really sad. And this happened in South Bronx, so i doubt anbyody outside of NY even heard abt it.

Re: tv, internet, media

But the difference is back home only a small percentage of people have internet access at home, and it is not always used for leisure the way it is here in the US. Its not that easily affordable. So here people are able to use for all sorts of horrible ways if NOT monitored by the parents, and have the time to do so. Back in 3rd world countries, they are just starting to develop better access…cheaper pc’s…not everyone is able to go online anytime with cable/dsl.

Also they might have guns but they don’t have as many influences. TV stations are different there…here you also have copy cat syndrome unfortunately..where media blows up a situation and some crazy person idolizes it and repeats it. Also here mainsteream there are movies on all the time on various cable/satellitel channels. Not everyone there has dish/cable etc with foreign moves…etc…so that makes a big difference as well.
And I agree with what Ira said about parents not being able to give enough time, but its also quality of time. You have top talk to them, talk about current issues…you have to be open enough with kids so that they can come to you.

Re: tv, internet, media

and you r probably the biggest one...always these side attacks...you will not change...

"tedious weeds that the media breeds"

A question to all!

what does the Media give you?

It has given me glasses to wear, now I can see starving and dying people in High-Defintion!

what about you?

Re: tv, internet, media

Numb, it has given me and my children the knowledge of children in northern pakistan who have no schools. We are planning a "Pennies for Peace" fund drive to build a school for a village over there. Its given me perspectives from more than both sides of any story. Its opened my eyes about whats going on in diferent areas of my own country.
Its not ALL bad here. Its how you use it, how you perceive it, how much of it you expose your kids to that matters.
Thats the BIG thing here. Use it or abuse it. I choose to USE it.

at least i'm not a dopehead. Now what u gonna go cry in your journal some more?

I am not sure in this case but i believe a lot of behavioural problems in kids these days emerge because of lack of attention and time from their parents.
[/QUOTE]

I think this is a big factor in all this. In too many families now, children get so little quality time spent with their parents. They dont have any positive upbringing at home, arent taught proper values and ethics, have no role models (except for Britney Spears), never get disciplined for their wrongs, etc. So many kids grow up watching the trashiest things on tv, they are exposed to so much violence and drugs and sex and alcohol from such a young age and their parents couldnt care less. Its like they say, we live in a world where people treat their dogs like their kids and their kids like their dogs

:(

Exactly, same goes for so many things. Alot of bad can come from tv/internet, especially if we leave our kids to watch whatever they want, whenever they want, no supervision etc. But then alot of good can also come from it, if its used correctly and within reason. Its like a knife. If a crazy man takes a knife and kills someone can we say knives are bad lets get rid of them all? No knives are not bad, whats bad is how he used it. Coz a surgeon can use the same knife to save someone's life
