i’m planning to buy a tv card for my computer. any one have any idea or info about which ones are the best and how much they cost, what functions should i look for…?
one of my friends had this thing called ‘ATI all in wonder’ some time ago and he used it to tune TV and was able to connect his VCR to the card and copy stuff from the vcr to the harddisk. aso, do these TV cards also perform the functions of a 3D card…?
thanks
Yeah, get the ATI all-in-wonder 9800 pro and you will get all the things that you mentioned. I have the 9000 version and it not only records things from the VCR but also acts as a PVR, recording live TV (sorta like TIVO). Cool stuff.
tofi,
how much does it cost? and do all TV cards have the function o recording TV? and what does PVR stand for?
ive alos heard of this brand called 'PixelView' but am not sure what functions it offers or how goo it is or how much it costs... any idea?
Ok, Niqabi's link explains most of it.
PVR (or DVR) stands for Personal (or Digital) Video Recorder, where you can record live tv (and pause and rewind it too).
The All-in-wonder 9800 Pro would run u some $350-400, the 9000 Pro that i have cost me about $250 about a year ago and now its available for about $150.
PixelView is by GeForce and one of their models do have TV capture, but almost all of the others don't. So be careful.

thanks for the link to the older thread.
digitalsurgeon,
have you used the pixelview ordinary card with the PVR function? does it come with a good software as you say is required. are the ones in the range of $20 dollars-Rs. 1400 good?
TofiBaba
the ATI all in wonder are the best around i guess and thus espensive too. are the ATI cards good as graphic cards too? and are pixelview ones? and, these cards have output and input both right?
thanks!
If u want something cheaper go for a:
ATI RADEON AIW 9800 SE
the SE models are a but lower clocked, so a bit slower at gaming then the 9800 PRO.
it has full directX9.0 features unlike the 9000 series. :) and it s fast enough to play the latest games.
it is one of the best value for money cards :D
