TV announcers and TurooN sound of Radio

I dont watch desi TV , nor do I listen to Desi Radio so I dont know,

  1. do we still have the announcers? and why did we have them to begin with? I remember it was pretty respected profession and TV announcers were well known just for announcements.

  2. Also, I remember on Radio, we had the “TuRoon” sound between commercials, announcing the gap between two commercials. Do we still have those sounds?

Re: TV announcers and TurooN sound of Radio

nope, no more announcers...don't think they served any real purpose except to read a loooooooooooong list of sponsors names right before the start of every programme, maybe that was the purpose. the popular prime time dramas had the longest list of sponsors i remember, that was an indication the drama is a hit i guess.

radio hmm didn't really listen to it myself but i have distinct memories of my grandfather listening to it, esp bbc urdu service.

aaahh good old days:sign:

They were just following what the norms were at that time. Other places moved on, but we just took a while.
