Turning a saree into a kaftaan

Hello junior fashion designers!

Can a saree (the way it’s cut) be turned into a kaftaan? I hear people can do that from old long dupataas so I assume it’s possible for a sari as well but how would you go designing that?

Where would the palo of the sari be used for? on the sleeves.

Re: Turning a saree into a kaftaan

oooo.. sounds interesting! I have soo many sareez I dont wear anymore - i might just take them to Pakistan and get ponchos'/kaftans made out of them..

I would use the pallu as the kaftan daaman but it can definitely be used as sleeves :)

Re: Turning a saree into a kaftaan

pallu sleeves pe kaisay ayega jee ?

Re: Turning a saree into a kaftaan

u can either put the pallu on the front bottom of the kaftan or the front top (neckline). the borders of the sari (top and bottom) will be along the sleeves.

but i wouldn't ruin a perfectly good sari to do this. Saris never go out of style...these kaftans will - unless you live along the beach.

:D mujhay kia pata - is liyay to pooch rahi houn. I am clueless about cutting/switching business.

Afshi I won't ruin my mom pricey saris but I have a couple siple chifon ones that I don't see myself wearing on an average day. They are too simple to wear to weddings.

Ive seen lehngas turn into dresses...with the right darzi...anything is possible. Are you taking/sending to Pakistan?
