A very dramatic occurance. Lebanese media, including Hezbollah’s media arm, say that they have heard from Syrian sources that the Syrians shot down the Turkish plane. BBC is reporting witnesses from Latakia as saying that they saw a plan shot down by the Syrian army there.
The Turks are a very proud people… I don’t see them letting this just slip idly by, especially given that they seem to be looking for a reason to intervene in Syria.
Turkey’s government has called an emergency security meeting amid reports that one of its fighter jets was shot down by Syrian security forces.
The Turkish military lost contact with an F-4 Phantom over the Mediterranean Sea, south-west of Hatay province.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told a news conference there is still no confirmation of what brought the jet down, nor of the fate of its two crew.
He was earlier quoted as saying: “The other side have expressed regret”.
Relations between Turkey and Syria, once close allies, have deteriorated sharply since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad began in March 2011.

Hmmm intriguing....
I have a Question what the hell was a Turkish Millitary aircraft aircraft doing so close to the Syrian border? Secondly did it invade Syrian airspace?
Now if the Turks wanted to make this a "Cassus belli" it seems perfectly logical given the choice of plane used... Who the hell still operates F-4 phantoms as frontline aircraft!!!????, apart from Iran and some other very poorly equiped air forces, if this was a sacrifical pawn it makes some sense.
However at the same time maybe it is a geniune mistake by the Turkish pilot or Syrian defenders on the ground.
Either way it does not help the situation. Any news on the pilot? Perhaps that will be the best person to shed light on the actual event.
Still I hope nothing serious starts the last thing the World needs is another major war in the middle east.

Lebanese media heard that they heard that they said that...like Turkey isn't looking for an opurtunity to play daddy in that region. Don't forget what you did to the Armenians and Kurds before you look down on Al Assad...

Odd for Lebbanon to be giving words against Syria?
In 2006 I saw with my own eyes vital aid sent from Syria helping Hezbollah in the war effort. There was no way the millitants could disable so many first rate Merkava 3 and 4 Tanks with high brow stuff like the Soviet made Kornet and other ATGMs.
The Syrians even kindly donated some spare katushka lauchers and this is how Lebbanon repays them? Huh strange world.

You were with hezbollah fighters because even israel had trouble locating the rocket launchers in 2006. Shouldn't you be hiding now considering hezbollah is a terrorist organization and drones come get such terrorists? :D
Btw, hezbollah /=/ lebanon ! You also seem to forget the decades long syrian occupation of lebanon that only ended after the rafiq hariri assassination. I believe the hezbollans were using italian missiles (iran origined?) as I highly doubt a katushka can penetrate a merkava when it can't even cause much damage to israeli infrastructure itself.

Oh and about hiding I have no reason to hide I was simply an observer in that conflict and no drones dont come looking for terrorists sometimes terrorists are operating drones instead. Besides far more people agree with my viewpoint and thats why I am so free to roam this world under the employ of rights groups and aid agencies. Aap ko merey baray main fikar karna ka shukriya ;)

Since the israeli attack on the turkish flotilla, turkish pride is questionable that so many were killed and injured yet we saw no attack on israel. Lets see how they deal with a weaker nation, over two planes that were according to syria, violating its airspace.
Turkey seems desperate to be in the Eu that it will do anything to please its masters. They on the other hand are busy using and abusing her. Erdogan seemed so promising aswell..

I was talking about katyushka and I am right, the ghaans phoons missile is more apt for terror use than something that causes real significant damage.
PS Btw, what israel lebanese clashes? There is a UN monitoring team now in the area, which is one of the demands that Israel made in the ceasefire, so there is no chance that any ragtag lebanese army can win a fight in front of the UN (ceasefire violation) against a formidable enemy and we wouldn’t know it in the world.
