I do have humtv at home with my other channels. recently started watching a lot of Pakistani dramas and then i came across an ad for this show. It was in urdu but it seemed dubbed. Then i realised it’s one of those Turkish shows ive read about on GS. Do you recommend watching them or should i stick to the safe option of watching the Pakistani dramas that ive come to like and enjoy?
Are they more westernised in a way or are they eastern as well? Is it easy to understand the culture within? With Pakistani dramas there’s common connection due to similarities and of course language. Do you feel that same connection when going from Pakistani dramas to Turkish dramas? Also, feels kind of like a betrayal of humtv to watch Turkish dramas on a Pakistani channel. It’s like living in a friend’s house but admiring the garden of a neighbour. It gives me this uneasy feeling.
Maybe i am over thinking this.
I think next year on Zee Zindagi they will be introducing popular Turkish dramas to the list as well as joint collaborations with Pakistani actors.
Basically your opinion on this shows and whether you’d recommend it to another desi person who knows nothing of Turkish culture/history or even middle eastern history.
Re: Turkish dramas on Pakistani channels..would you recommend watching?
I get geo but im a hum tv loyalist. I think geo has been through some tough times so i’m feeling sympathetic. Sometimes i watch geo pakistan and if there’s any bollywood songs i fully enjoy it because i like singing along . I like it when they have indian celebrities too. Is it showing mera sultann right now?
Ok if u give me the seal of approval i’ll feel less like a traitor and i’ll be ok with watching those Turkish dramas. The inner desi in me is still having a struggle.
I will ask my Pakistani friend if she watches those as well. She’s been giving my dad Pakistani drama suggestions. I wish i had a Pakistani drama watching buddy who could translate the Urdu for me. My parents expect me to be the translator because they know i have online pakistani friends i can’t do it. It’s too hard. And hum tv doesn’t do subtitles
Re: Turkish dramas on Pakistani channels..would you recommend watching?
Not all Turkish dramas are good.
I know dubbing takes away some of the charm but I find them somewhat boring, depressing and foreign (the handful that I have seen).
Of course we can identify with the stories because they are of the same Earth and there is some commonality as far as the religious background.
I don't mind them as long as I don't see blatant violation of my religious, moral and cultural values in my face. Some of them are known to do that but as long as they are censored on Pakistani screens, I am fine.

I don't have much or any commonality with Turkish dramas when it comes to background :/ how often do they violate your religious, moral and cultural values? Is it like bollywood type or more or less? How much is censored on Pakistani tv? Are bollywood movies censored also?
Re: Turkish dramas on Pakistani channels..would you recommend watching?
The ones I've seen on the channels I get are censored mostly.
But apparently, there are those that are as racy as American shows in their original form.
I don't know if there are channels that show them uncensored.

Really? As racy as American Tv shows. It would definitely get censored in India also. I'm sure some Bollywood movies also get censored if shown on Pakistani tv.
You know what's interesting though? Some American tv dramas don't have racy stuff. There's this American soap called 7th heaven about a conservative Christian family..and it has none of that stuff.
I guess Turkey is in Europe so they have racy material like Europe does. I hear that UK serials have more of that stuff than American ones.

I don't think they're as racy as American tv shows. Most of them do show women 'uncovered' (bare legs and arms or even women in bikinis at the most) but not nudity as western channels might..
They show kissing and people in bed but not 'doing it'..
Racy by eastern standards but modest for the west if that makes sense..

Interesting. It sounds like, in terms of exposure, it's similar to some bollywood movies.
Re: Turkish dramas on Pakistani channels..would you recommend watching?
^A little bit more liberal than mainstream Bollywood.. Turkish soaps + films can show passionate kissing etc.
I don't think snogging and unmarried couples laying in bed together are shown much on Indian screens.. As I mentioned tho, most Turkish tv doesn't go much further than that..

No you're there's no snogging and unmarried couples on Indian tv. In Bollywood some movies have snogging but not many and def no passionate kissing.
So is the Pakistani tv version of Turkey dramas watchable with parents. They usually watch humtv with me. Or is it something you watch solo? If it's a bit less than Hollywood it should be ok.
Re: Turkish dramas on Pakistani channels..would you recommend watching?
^The Pakistani versions should be fine I think..
I'm going Istanbul again next week so will update on what they're all watching :D
Thanks. Look forward to it. My dad and brother are going to Turkey for the first time in 2 weeks. Someone said Turkey is literally like heaven on earth. It's an amazing place. Hopefully one day i'll visit.
