Turkish army warns against "fundamenatlism"

The head of Turkey’s staunchly secular military warned Friday that the armed forces would protect the state against “fundamentalism”_ days after a party with Islamic roots swept national elections.

I don’t see any “DEMOCRATIC” country speaking against Turkish Army’s motive here. If people of a country, by elections, opted a party with Islamic roots, why the heck is it a problem for others? What does “democracy” means? Does it means “secularism at all cost” ?

Apparently it does, and this is what happened in 1992 when Islamists won over 60% of the votes in the elections. The democracy preaching west and its surrogates in extremist secular regimes like in Turkey, are only supporters of democracy when it suits their idealogical and national concerns. Hypocrites.

So basically some countries dictate to rest of the world on what type of government their people are allowed to form. It surely is hypocricy in name of democracy.

If I had the choice of both dictator and hypocrite I would take the first option!

Yes. Now suddenly the EU wants to remain a Christian club, and keep Turkey out, if we are to go by the statements of some senior Europeans. Turkey entry ‘would destroy EU’](BBC NEWS | Europe | Turkey entry 'would destroy EU')

Guys Guys.. the problem is with the Rogue Army, not the EU or the ‘Christian West’… last I checked these were ‘Turkish’ Generals.

The problem with Turkey is very similar to the one in Pakistan.. The armed forces are boot lickers of western powers and subjugate their populace with threats and force.. do not accept democratic governments and use the secret services to keep them at bay.

Down with Rogue Armies wherever they are :nook:

I think you are way behind updates. The first ingorant words came from your beloved countries men.

That's because it's in their interest that Turkey keeps obeying them.. the fault still lies with an army which looks out for foreign interest more than respect the will of the public..

remember Ali_R, if u're ready to be sold, don't find faults with the buyer.

Very true. But the more the Turkish generals with the support of the US try to muzzle the Islamists, the more support such forces will receive. Everything the secular-mad generals have done since dismissing the last Islamist PM Necmettin Erbakan (because his wife dared to wear a scarf at an official function) have proved hugely counter productive. In the last month or so democratic elections have seen a huge surge of support for Islamic parties not just in Turkey, but also Bahrain, Morocco and Pakistan. Somehow these people have to be accomodated in the democratic process, whether we like it or not. Its better to have them in the democratic process, rather than outside it.

If demand increases rapidly who will care about the other market values available?
