do u really think the turban is such a difficult concept to come up with? every single culture in the world has headgear that's a turban at some stage or the other.
yes it was developed by very fair skinned, non-african, tall and blue eyed guys.
hmmm if all mankind came from africa, the i suppose the ppl who started turbans were africans.
The only thing pakistanis have in common with most Arabs is the religion. Other then that, they're culture is more similiar to indians. Nothing wrong with that.
Back to the topic: For some reason turban donned men, be it sikhs or muslims have this charisma about them that demand respect. Its pretty interesting.
hmm people fighting like kids again .. sheesh.
waisay kenny, turban if worn properly is very elegant, but then its associated with the powerful and all in some areas. Otherwise jamdaars in pakistan wear turbans too, i dont think they get any more respect due to their headgear.
If u go to rural punjab in Pakistan even today u will find most middle age people wearing turbans.. its a traditional symbol of sacradness in punjabis and Balauchis too. Sikhs only started wearing turbans when Aurangzeb started persecuting them and under certain law from local nawabs only elite could wear turbans and sikhs revolted against that resulting in bloodshed..
We used to wear ferozi turbans in winter and grey in summer time in our school where it was compulsary one day in a week.. I miss those days..
The origins of the turban are uncertain. Early Persians wore a conical cap encircled by bands of cloth, which historians have suggested was developed to become the modern turban, but other theories suggest it was first widely worn in Egypt. Turbans became common among the Turks after the capture of Constantinople in 1453. Carvings left by the Assyrians, who lived 3,000 years ago in the area that is now Iraq, show turbans on the heads of kings.
In the Old Testament, Leviticus 8.9. describes a man who "Put a turban on his head and set the gold rosette as symbol of holy dedication on the front of the turban as the Lord had commanded him."
{No external links for other BB's, please. Thanks}
Degas, if you can find some old phototgraphs from 1850s or paintings you will see you can't distinguish from the turban whether someone is a Sikh or Muslim or Hindu. Some older Punjabi Hindus also wear turbans in rural punjab even today.
Where was that one day a week turban thingy in school? Pakistan?
We used to have Maroon turban, khaki pants and white shirt. That was Govt schools...some Sikh schools have t Saffron turban, navy blue pants and white shirt. In winter you wear Maroon colored sweater which matches really well with the rest.
I went to Aitchison College Lahore known better as chief college before partition and even to date turbans are compulsary one day a week and at most annual funtions at this pretigious institution.. but turbans have to be really smart with maanja .. its an inherent part of the schools’s culture.. I rememeber we used to have annual sports competition with some school I guess in patiala.. I wish i had some of my pics in turban getting prizes or riding - here in USA to show u..
check out the Sports section and then news ..

yes its a school but its from nursery to 12th grade and called college.. dunno about what happened to ones u mentioned in India but this one maintained excellence in education standards and sports..
Ms moona, turbans are not all that important. Their size or height does not represent anything, which might be of significance in real racial matters. In other words, just because some of mid-easterns seem to wear turbans does not mean that they are anyway better than, say, negros in things that count more.
Roman puttar, pugg di gall chall rai ay kachhay di nai. so stop fantasizing about negros and sardars.
Chann ji, I never thought about sardars. I never thought they had big enough kachha.
Why is the sardar turban without a hanging end???It is almost like a cap made of rolls of turban ![]()
One thing i admire about sikh men is they never get embarassed by there attire unlike Muslims who crticize each other if they wear sherwani or pyjama although i realise sikhs turban is RELIGIOUS & muslim sherwani or Pyjama is CULTURAL
Neverheless even in matters of religion i seldom find muslims confidently refusing alcoholic drinks …or like jews maintain9ng kosher .I guess everything comes from self esteem & self esteem comes from schievement or confidence:k: :k: :k:

The days of high school excellence is gone inwith the RAj innocent days of no competition..It depends more to go to good college & even that only to be able to do M.S. OR Phd.
Education has so much accelerated in last 2 decades that even b.s is not enough now.Mba double major ,two degrees are becoming common.
You may ace the high school in the continent but ppl. will only see he lat grade befotre you enter job market.
High school is important to compete to get in best colleges either professionsl (eng.Med.) or law or manage ment or business schools .
I know you can get the highest possible marks in GCE A level & O level but most colleges take competitve enterance exam in India .In usa is the sat but for foreign student you have to beg more than anything else .

It may be off topic here to discuss it but Aitchson college students have always been par excellence after school.. every year from a small group that passes A levels there is a definite no that goes to MIT, Stanfard, Cal Tec, Prinston, Yale and others .. and many of these schools have arrangement with Aitchison too and students with great SAT and Achievenmat results are admitted with scholarships..
you mean Stanford and Princeton? I usually don't pick on spelling but it worried me a bit to read you say that you went to Atchison, that a number of students from your school go to Stanford and Princeton and yet ...

I guess ur not aware how samplimg is done.. if I take ur posts here I should not analyse that all Indians are hate ridden, myopic viewd only finding faults in Pakistanis. I look around and see so many good Indian friends both hindus and muslims .. instead of contributing to the thread u just found some of my spellings in a post that was in it off topic .. lol
