Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

Was the Shah episode part of the Arab spring? Nope. That was 30 years ago. Apples please meet cheddar cheese.

Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

what is islamic country and what is islamic state big difference.

If you going to call pakistan islamic country then it is not reality is just another secular country with islamic decorations.

Your point is more to do with economic factor nothing to do with people in love with secularism the reason most people go to western countries is to better themselves educationally or financially because in their own countries their is no progress and too much corruption because of the systems in place.

Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

That is good news. Islam was taboo under bin ali, people were not free to practise...so this is a positive change. Hopefully Egypt, and yemen will go the same way.

Re: Tunisia’s Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

^ inshallah but it is not easy situation the americans are happy with egypt leadership

http://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=65410

"the longstanding relationship between the two military establishments remained strong and would contribute to supporting Egypt during this critical time. The statement noted that Mullen has a “very strong relationship” with his Egyptian counterpart, Lt General Sami Enan and has talked with him “dozens of times or more”

This indicates the americans still control what is going on in Egypt they happy with status quo so nothing except removal of mubarak has changed and the people on street know it and they start rebelling again and the army clamp down immediately you will see.

Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

^ ridiculous to say Americans control Egypt, that too in a discussion related to the Arab spring! If Americans controlled, would Mubarak be on trial today? After seeing the people's view America changed their support of Mubarak in spite of significant past investments. That should show you that America is supportive of people and not regimes as their primary priority.

Re: Tunisia’s Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

The americans have supported the Egyptian regime for several decades. Even up to the last minute America fully backed the mubarak regime.

“Mubarak has been an ally of ours in a number of things. And he’s been very responsible on, relative to geopolitical interest in the region, the Middle East peace efforts; the actions Egypt has taken relative to normalizing relationship with – with Israel. … I would not refer to him as a dictator.”

between 1979 and 2003, the US has provided Egypt with about $19 billion in military aid, making Egypt the second largest non-NATO recipient of US military aid after Israel. Also, Egypt received about $30 billion in economic aid within the same time frame. In 2009, the US provided a military assistance of US$ 1.3 billion (inflation adjusted US$ 1.33 billion in 2011), and an economic assistance of US$ 250 million (inflation adjusted US$ 256.1 million in 2011).[23] In 1989 both Egypt and Israel became a Major non-NATO ally of the United States.

with all this free money(AID) can you claim america does not call the shots in egypt?

Military cooperation between the US and Egypt is probably the strongest aspect of their strategic partnership. General Anthony Zinni, the former Commandant of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), once said, “Egypt is the most important country in my area of responsibility because of the access it gives me to the region.” Egypt was also described during the Clinton Administration as the most prominent player in the Arab world and a key US ally in the Middle East. US military assistance to Egypt was considered part of the administration’s strategy to maintaining continued availability of Persian Gulf energy resources and to secure the Suez Canal, which serves both as an important international oil route and as critical route for US warships transiting between the Mediterranean and either the Indian Ocean or the Persian Gulf.

With all these military ties how can you say they have no influence on what goes on in egypt?

Chief of Staff Lt.Gen. Sami Annan and Defence Minister Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi were in constant contact with the US throughout the uprising.

The secular parties in Egypt supported a committee chosen by the military council what does this mean? it means a trained/funded by the US will protect the american interests.

Egypt has 1 result removal of 82 year old mubarak but the structure and personal have been moved around so in fact nothing has been changed in real terms.

After these few examples do you still claim it is “ridiculous” to say america does not control what goes on in egypt?

Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

'having influence' and controlling are completely different.

you have basically repeated and expanded what I said (I said American investments and you expanded it to several paragraphs) except the claim about control

Re: Tunisia's Islamists back moderate form of Sharia law

egypt is client state of united states any fool knows that, it is like pakistan is client state of United states also.
