adding saw, ra, pbuh etc do not really connote respect. not adding these does not automatically connote lack of respect.
secondly, I disagree with your following statement:

*thousands of ourtemples were destroyed and desecrated when islam spread to India. Why would you expect a normal Hindu to respect a religion and prophet in whose name it was done?
You may say that such destruction was not what Allah or Quran wanted and that it was done by misguided people. Intellectuals can understand that argument but not the common man
