there is absolute unsure contradiction in this poem. the narrator expects to be called back, & yet the poem ends on an implied note of asking for forgetness.
does it work this way.

Dushwari jee, i think the poet is trying to work on reverse psychology.. he expects something unexpected.. like the person he is talking might has habbit of forgetting good deeds and giving harsh returns..
but thats what i thought.. :$

Sis, though you might have felt absolute contradiction in the poem but the poet might have experienced this very behavior of people that they forget those who have helped them when they were feeling down. So in poet’s view, this might probably be the best reward of all his gentle and comforting acts. He may not be wishing to deceive himself by expecting some favor from the person concerned and is therefore simply asking him to forget him (the poet). Hope I’ve helped you understand the point…
