yes all of us have heard these famous lyrics…and uncle pasha keeps on repeating them
tum kitnay bhutto maro gay, har ghar say bhutto niklay ga
but do we know who wrote those immortal lyrics? a poor poet who was a carpenter called naaser qawi. A very close friend of mine Irfan javed (a famous writer and a bureaucrat) is writing biographical sketches of different personalities these days in Jang’s sunday magazine and he wrote about naseer qavi this week. very interesting sketch. this is episode 1 and i will post episode when it is published.
you have to give it to bhutto that the way he mobilized and energized poor people in pakistan, no one else could do it. they loved him to death. Bhutto was a phenomenon for them. it is mind boggling that being a sindhi himself and without having any roots in punjab, how bhutto swept through the whole punjab including rural punjab the very first time. something imran khan has failed to do and sharif brothers do it partially by using bureaucratic and administrative gimmicks.

unfortunately not personally but one of leader/friend Malik Mazharudin knew him very well

He was born politician and knew the mood of general public. An excellent orator, full command in Urdu, Sindh and English languages, who convinced people according to their level of education and understanding. Mostly he was really a awami leader no one came near to him when playing the pakistani politics.
I have said many times same for the Imran Khan. It is unfortunate that instead of depending on his own intelligence, IK depended on the scripts which were totally failed and made him kind of stupid politician.
NS used Punjabi ethinic card “jaag Punjabi jaag tere pug main lag gai aag” totally a negative politics played by kalu bast@4d in Karachi, to get the Punjabi votes. NS made the whole Pakistan as Punjabistan, perhaps it will never free from this ethinic evil.

You are right, Bhutto was born to become a politician and Imran was born to become a champion sportsman. Bhutto was a career politician groomed within the system, Imran the visionary philanthropist joined politics at a later age by accident, as an outsider and remained an outsider. Bhutto was a rich feudal, therefore way more natural and methodical in connecting with rural population. Imran hails from a very urban upper middle class background hence naturally inclined to focus on engaging with politically detached urban population of Pakistan. You can also throw overseas Pakistanis in the mix.
Imran hasn’t held a single ministerial position in his career so far whereas Bhutto made his political breakthrough as a foreign minister under a military dictator. The political journey of Bhutto and Imran are so very different, you can choose to call Bhutto a more professional politician than Imran, and you’d stand corrected. But the truth remains, despite all the differences, the one single massive similarity between Bhutto and Imran is that these two leaders are the only leaders after Jinnah who managed to mobilise historic level of people’s support on national level simply on the sheer power of an ideology and personal charisma and credibility.
You can call Bhutto the original trendsetter, but after Bhutto, Imran is the only leader in Pakistan who transcends race, regional, ethnic, lingual, sectarian, class, gender boundaries to unify his supporters and voters for a specific cause. Just like Bhutto, Imran is also a personality and a character you simply cannot ignore.
Re: tum kitnay butto maro gay, har ghar say bhutto niklay ga
Altaf Hussain/MQM’s support is only based in certain localities of Karachi (just one city of Pakistan) and his politics heavily relies on exploiting ethnic tensions. That’s the reason why MQM - despite 30 years of its existence - has absolutely zero support and goodwill outside of Karachi and Hyderabad. So it’s not just about size of the rallies.
Imran has mananged to stir things up on national level. Bhutto’s astronomical rise to power happened just as fast as his tragic fall, but Imran’s 19 years of political career - without holding any ministerial or bureaucratic position - has been a one long and gritty struggle in true sense of the word. It’s phenomenal. If he wanted, he could’ve taken charge as PCB’s chief to experience the taste of power.
