Tuition !

In Pakistan , coaching classes and extra Tuision is quite an encouraged phenomenon .. people spends thousands on them … do you think its a positive trend and brings useful results?

Re: Tuition !

I think it is more of a mental thing, if student A is doing it and doing good, student B and C will do it to complete. But maybe it helps a little bit to enforce somethings the students already know.

Re: Tuition !

I've actually been wondering about this, why is everyone in pakistan receiving private tuition at home or going to these so-called "Academy classes"? Is it because the teaching in schools is not enough to pass the exams?

Here, tuition is very uncommon. I personally only know one family (pakistani) who hired a "teacher" for their children. Most people do with what the school teachers have to offer.

Re: Tuition !

Competition is tough in Pakistan. Even if you are a good student, you will feel that you may not be giving your 100% if you are not receiving tuition. Look at it this way, here in the US, parents make their kids to take part in as many extra-curricular activities as possible. They feel it is going to give them an edge in college admissions. This is how parents feel in Pakistan as well.

Although two things I have never figured out about Pakistani education system. Why is the 10th (or 11th if you are doing GCSE) grade exam so tough? I mean, it is the same material as anywhere else. Here in the US, high school means more fun. In Pakistan, high school means 10 hours of extra studying, tuition and constant pressure to do well.

Another thing, and this may be cultural. In here US, it is common to be a good student, good athlete, and take part in several activities. Back in my school in Pakistan, the best students were literally nerds. They had only one activity, and that was studying. The kinds of kids who were good in sports weren't exactly the ones scoring the highest grades.

Re: Tuition !

I totally agree with above!
