There’s been a surge in the popularity of tuition academies in Pakistan in the recent years. Jissay dekho academy join kar raha hai at a cost of about 15000 rupees on average, which is a lot for a middle class family.
Are they worth the money?
To me, it makes sense why students preparing for important exams like the medical entry test seek help from these academies. But there’s been an increase in the number of school kids joining academies too. Discuss.
^ That's not always the case. I didn't get tuition when I was studying for my A'levels. The teachers at my school taught just fine. However some of the students preferred to stay out of class and got tuition after school. Their parents could afford it, while I thought it was a waste of money.
Those of us who’ve never attended such academies did just fine by self-studying at home. Obviously school mein syllabus cover karte hain, exam prep nahin.

Especially on the school kids I think it's quite hard... they're sent to the academy for 2-3 hours as soon as they return from school... when you're wrecked, your attention span is quite low anyway.
I guess my mom's danda paid off with me. My mom would sit with me until I had done mine homework revised everything and it wan't all pyar muhabbat. Mom let me loose around 5th or 6th grade and haven't had any tuition since, except for when I was preparing for my O'levels. They had just started Statistics at school and this teacher at school had no idea how to teach the subject. Then there were Islamiat and Pak Studies, got a B and C despite tuitions. Then I went to this place at a minutes walk(literally) from my place for about 2 or 3 months cause we had preparatory leaves and I was bored and scared I would forget everything. But this one was Math, Physics and Chem so I was basically helping everyone else, nice experience though.
From what I've seen, a lot of people like to bunk classes at school and then make up for it by going to these academies. Their parents don't seem to have a problem with it. But I've also seen some teachers who deliberately do not teach properly at school and instead encourage their students to take the evening classes they themselves offer... some students do end up going to the same teacher. Of course, there is also the competition that goes on... some students feel they won't be able to excel unless they take extra classes, even if they're already understanding all the material in class.

I used to hear that teachers didn't really bother at school as they all had their academies in the evenings so studying in school was dire etc etc. Though no clue if that's true or not
