TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

Allah khair karay, military aur intelligence nay tou kuch nahin karna…

TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report – The Express Tribune

**LAHORE: ****The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)’s Punjab faction has already held rehearsals to target a nuclear site in DG Khan, revealed an intelligence report.

**

The faction was identified as the key culprit in the report. The report also dispelled the notion that terrorists have completed reconnaissance and have succeeded in getting a video footage of the installation in DG Khan.

Most of the reconnaissance was carried out by a Punjabi Taliban group led by Asmatullah Moavia.

Moavia’s group will be abetted by TTP commanders Ghulam Rabbani and Qari Kamran for the attack.

The report also revealed that terrorists had already rehearsed the attack by having frequented their planned route to the nuclear facility.

**Circular issued

**
On the basis of this intelligence report, a circular had been issued by the National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) and the interior ministry, which was then forwarded to all provincial law enforcement agencies.

Using a code word to refer to the nuclear installation, the circular directed close coordination between all law enforcement agencies and foolproof security measures to thwart the nefarious terror scheme.

Suicide bombers have been earmarked in this regard, stated the circular.

DPO DG Khan Chaudhry Muhammad Saleem, while talking to The Express Tribune, confirmed the intelligence report as well as the circulars issued by the federal and provincial governments.

Security of sensitive sites was already beefed up after the Kamra airbase attack but on receiving this new threat alert, the security of the DG Khan nuclear facility has been further enhanced, Saleem said.

About eight police pickets have been established around the nuclear sites, besides inner security cardons.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

What logic or sense does it make to expose such information (if at all it is true) to the media? Not only are such 'intelligence reports' routinely outed by our esteemed interior ministry, local police officials gladly confirm them for the media (and for the terrorists).
This gives terrorists enough time and opportunity to alter their plans and adjust dates/methods etc accordingly. Thank you Interior ministry.

Pretty similar to what happens in Karachi, where the bandits and criminals are given advanced information of a raid, and are given ample time to escape. Look at the so-called Lyari operation. Everyone and their uncle got killed, but the actual culprits.

As far as I know, these intelligence reports are created and floated by military intelligence, forwarded to the interior ministry in order to get the police and paramilitary forces alert. But our interior ministry floats them in the media, somehow thinking that would be an intelligent move. General threats should be publicized, but specific threats should be dealt with in a targeted manner. Thats common logic.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

The strangest thing is that For many incidents the reports were already there with the interior ministry, intelligence and military but no one could do anything to stop them (srilankan team and kamra base attacks). Since the afghan war is ending the attack on nuclear installations could be a reality, as the terrorists (and some other friends) might want to shift the theater towards Pakistan. If the terrorists are getting video footages from sensitive locations, that's something for the military to ponder about

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

Agree,
And it make me remember how Rehman Malik brief media about timings of cell network blockage, i.e. specific timings, specific cities, and even specific part a city.
If rehman Malik telling that specific part of Lahore would unblocked as soon as possible, terrorist would likely adjust their routes and plans accordingly.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

Very true. To me attack on 'nuclear' installation does not mean anything since the 'nukes' are disbanded and different parts placed at different sites, there is no way idiots can attack a site and get their dirty hands on dirty bomb. If someone really wants to get nuclear they can get it easily from Europe.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

^ However symbolic it maybe, but an attack at a place where some meetings might have taken place regarding nuclear work decades ago, will still be floated as an attack on the nerve center of Pakistan's nuclear apparatus. In the event of such an attack, it's not what will we lose physically, it will be what we lose psychologically.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

Time to recall the finest arts of war that we scrapped long ago, one of them being "offence is the best defence." Those who await enemies at their doorsteps and do not know how to take the war to the enemies' camps and nip the threats in the bud, do not deserve any sympathy. They are born to mourn, so be it.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

What can be done the country which is facing an existential threat, after 11 years cannot ammend the laws of the country and to form a central authority tto coordinate the intelligence between the concerned departments, the least said the better.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

So we actually need a law that allows law enforcement to collect evidence.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

I think it's more about acting on intelligence.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

The law of evidence in our current laws gives relief to criminals, as even if there is a forensic evidence that mr x has done a terrorist attack but due to threats if no one testifies against him, or the prosecuter and judges get influenced due to the terrorists he will be freed.SimIlarly the law enforcement agencies can't do anything preemptively even of they know in advance that mr x is preparing some terrorist attack.

Secondly there should be some central agency to coordinate any information they receive so as to alert all the concerned departments, in our case it seems as if in some cases there was intelligence of some attacks but maybe the coordination Between departments was poor.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

tribune walas have completly lost it, what was their purpose behind this news? who are they trying to help?

this is really irresponsible and immature journalism.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

lol public b maan leti hai ye sari bakwas. come on guys, you guys are somwhat educated, stop reading such bakwas news. there's no nuclear facitily and no report no nada.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

I highly doubt this.

The TTP wants to be a nuclear power?

First of all, Pakistani nukes are kept in under-ground bunkers.
Two, all Pakistani nukes are de-mated with triggers, war heads, delivery mechanisms kept in different sites.

The best these goons can do is steal a war head and make it into a dirty bomb but that radiation can be tracked by satellite.

Re: TTP Punjab rehearsed attack on nuclear site: Report

^ I dont think TTP can get hold of the nukes, but the attack on some nuke facility is a real threat to demoralize the country and help increase international pressure on Pakistan.
