this picture is reallly irritating for the damn brain, u cant just make out ke the thing is on the table or its standing????

Since it's POV-ray, it has to be a real 3D object, somehow.

The dark wood piece really is standing up.
The lighest piece is lying down on the table.
The diagonal middle colored piece is where the optical illusion lies. If you notice, the face of the dark wood piece and the face of the middle wood piece are not quite flush, so the middle wood piece is "bent" to make this illusion go.

What is more peculiar is that the shadows seem right - considering it was done on pOVray!
