Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

yummilicious this one , a must try .. you will love it .. specially in winters or on picnics .. this garam garam drink will surely make the day for you :@:

**Ingredients: **
Pink tea dry leaves ( you get them from most shops) Al Okazey tea is the one that I use
shreded almonds
Cardamom powder half tsp
Salt and Sugar
Whole milk
Condensed milk
A quarter tsp baking soda

In a pot , bring to boil two cups of water , when done, add 3 tsp of dry pink tea leaves and cover the pot immediately. Lower the heat to medium low and dont uncover the pot for the next 5 minutes.

Then uncover the pot and add in half tsp baking soda and cover the pot again and let it simmer for a good 15 minutes. After 15 minutes , check if the leaves have given out really dark color. If yes, add two really cold cups of water , flame up to medium, and using a deep spoon ( soup spoon ) start filling it with the tea and dropping it back in .. this process allows the leaves to give out proper taste and color .. the more you do it , the better your tea will taste and look … I normally do it for at least 10 minutes in high speed …

when the water starts boiling , add three cups of whole milk and let it be on medium heat , keep stirring it , just so the milk doesnt get burnt at the bottom of the pan. Add in half a tsp of cardamom powder…
When the tea comes to a boil, add in the salt first , about one tsp .. mix it in … then add three tblsp sugar … mix it in well .. taste it … if the balance is not there … add a bit more sugar and a but more salt… some like it salty , some like it sweet , while some like it to be tangy so we mix sugar and salt for that spicey taste …

Just a minute before the tea is ready, add in half a cup of condensed milk. to give it that thickness …
wait for it to boil … then turn of the flame , strain the tea and serve … just before serving dont forget to sprinkle a few pinches of shreded almonds and pistachios on top …

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

I love pink or kashmiri tea but we dont get the tea here. Dont u use pistiasia in it, never seen it with almonds. Where can I order the tea online.

plus is baking soda same as baking powder ?

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

Saadia , I dont like Pistachio much thats why I use the almonds .. but you can use both or just pista alone ... it will taste as brilliant always :@:
dont you have any desi shops around? normally you can get them there ... why dont you try with some loose green tea ... make green tea this way ... its equally good .. I bought loose green tea from Alokazay tea and it always always turns out fabulous ...

No Baking soda is soda bicarb ... baking powder is different ..

Now I have a question for you ... is pink tea the same as Kashmiri tea?

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

yes I think in pakistan they call it Kashmiri tea.

we have desi shops but we dont have green tea, will have to wait till I go back to pakistan for it. Thanks for the recipe I had forgatten how to make it, now i have saved it in my documents.

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

Pink tea is same as kashmiri tea :)

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

A clod, breezy evening and a cup of pink tea makes the best winters offer.

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

are the tea leaves "green tea", like any standard green tea, or something special you have to use?

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

i've tried it, this isn't the recipe for authentic kashmiri tea, but i'll try your recipe.
it might taste completely different when made by the pros since they know exactly how to make it.

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

They are regular green tea leaves.

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

Yeh I thought pink tea ( gulabi chai) was made from green tea. There's no such thing as pink tea leaves is there?

Re: Try a new recipe : Pink Tea

**Oww....reading this making me really want some pink tea :(
I really want to attempt making it but i'm still confused on the whole pink/green tea leaves...
Can someone please clarify if there is a difference between the two?

Thanks.
