I watched it. It was really good ... others were not too impressed though. I guess if you have ever read the story this movie is based on, The Iliad by Homer, you won't really like the movie all that much.
Overall, brad looked amazing but eric bana looked a thousad times better than him ..... and he acted so good in this movie .... not like in the Hulk, which really didn't impress me much. Eric acted a lot better than brad too ... and in my opinion, carried the film.
Ooooh, and those costumes really highlighted eric and brad's muscular thighs. ;)
orlando bloom also did good in this film. Overall, I liked it ... not much of a storyline though ... I wouldn't give it any awards or anything ... good action scenes though.
Read the book though .. The Iliad by Homer ... it's very good!
I watched it too ( a pirated version). Andi will agree with mehnaz that Eric Bana carried the movie mostly. Brad pitt was amazing too, his scenes with Bana and Peter O Toole were the highlight of the movie. Peter O'Toole was superb in the scenes when he goes to emet Brad Pitt. The biggest negative in the movie was Orlando Bloom though he looked handsome but younger than Helen.
Over all i give this movie 7/10 because of action scenes and acting talent on show.
Watched it on friday, i cudnt resist saying no to my frnds, afterall it’s brad pitt mate! … but then i found eric bana(hector) more , i think it was da beard..
oh well, it’s an arite movie.. typical hollywood trash.. i wudnt watch it the second time, ok maybe i will wid a couple of girlies at home…
I like the scene when king of troy comes in the middle of the night to achilles for his sons body, it’s so touching …
The guy who played Hector (Eric Bana is it?) was the life of the movie!!! Brad was good but really I kept on getting confused as to why or why not he wanted to fight. Overall an alright movie. I just got bored at points cuz the story was moving pretty slowly and I was going to myself where is the horse? Where is the dang horse?? hahahha! It was interesting to see that the King of Troy never listened to his sons - ever! If he had, Troy would not have been destroyed (yeah I’m re-writing greek mythology :p) Orlando was too good in LOTR that he just seemed wasted here. His fight scene w/ Menelaus was funny though
The attack on the Greeks at night with the fireballs was AWESOMELY done!!
The background music with the lady singing ‘aaaaa’ was Forced and did not gel with the theme of the movie. The drumbeats when Hector and Achilles were fighting was cool! Overall an alright movie but Gladiator still rocks
its on big screen here! if some of u have watched it...plz rate it so i could make my mind. actually one of my frend is insisting on going for it and cinemas r expensive here...earlier he took me to watch an indian movie which i suppose was a waste of my time and money...so this time i ll only go once i have expert opinions and suggestions.
can some of u do it for me?????
plz
while i did find the movie fairly entertaining, i found that certain historical/mythological inaccuracies were inserted for obvious cosmetic reasons - like the fact that Achilles and Hector were both in fact gay - this was probably removed to make it more appealing to wider variety. I mean what 16yr old girl, or normal male for that matter, wants to see Brad Pitt in bed with two men rather than two women, right?
Also, Achilles death. Movie-wise, he IS shot through the heel - but then several other arrows pierce him fatally. In reality, or, mythology - rather - Achilles was dipped into the river Styx as a baby, which made him invincible, except for on his heel which was what the goddess was holding him by. When the arrow pierced his heel later in life, it was the fact that he had never experienced pain before that caused his demise. On a lighter note - i thought Hector's brother was played quite well, especially the grovelling scene.
Overall I did enjoy the movie - but length and history will prove to be its own "Achilles Heel" (sorry, couldn't resist the reference)
Troy is ok as a spectacle but really it's a bit of a let down IMO. It only comes alive when the action starts, in between when you have to rely on the actors doing their stuff it's pretty uninspiring. The main stars don't shine at all. Orlando Bloom and Helen might as well not be there they are so limp, and Brad Pitt whose usually pretty good could be replaced by a mannequin in this one.
Some of the dialogue is excruciating. You can almost see the actors wincing as they deliver some of the corny lines.
The film is saved by Eric Bana (Hector) who brings some presence to the film and the likes of Peter O'Toole and Hector's wife is played well too. This is nothing like as gripping as the brilliant Gladiator - I wish Ridley Scott had directed this one - Troy is more epic-lite. A frothy lightweight attempt which is little more than eye candy. I predict it will appeal mainly to women, children and gays. There's plenty of shots of Brad in the buff if that's your scene.
Overall: I Troy'd to like it...and it's watchable...but it should have been much better. There were better acting performances in Toy Story. Nuff said.
But what I really disliked about it was the consciousness of the future – the constant references about how their names would be remembered, etc etc. I was like, okay people, we get it.
I thought Brad Pitt was pretty good.
I think Orlando bloom played the naive idealistic Paris pretty well.
Eric Banna was pretty good too – surrounded by idiots
The baby with the huge head was adorable
