My 1 TB Mass storage usb disk has suddenly stopped being detected. When I plug it in, it does read it and it shows up in the Devices and Drivers but doesn’t open or isnt shown with other drives. 
what should I do?!
I have a multitude of important stuff on it …please help me out pc whizzes !

Did you try plugging it on a different machine?
If the above doesn’t help, cleaning the contacts on the usb drive with a Q-Tip dipped/soaked in nail polish remover has often helped fix the issue as well. Just make sure you let the contacts dry up for 5 minutes before re-inserting the drive back in.

Try the one by Exodus , if it does not work , google the issue and try solutions suggested one by one. Looks like you were not using this drive as back up instead you were using it as original destination for your data , that is a bad idea, you should always have one backup to avoid heartache in case you lose data from one source.

^yup tried it on other laptops too..it didn’t work … 
I’d try what Exodus suggested then I’d see what could be done

You can know if it is working by holding it in your hand feeling the vibration when connected. If it feels lifeless, then its dead.
