Troops Withdrawal

Rep. John Murtha on NPR

Lately there have been more voices from the representatives who are asking for troops withdrawal from Iraq. One Rep. John Murtha has said yesterday that the US troops will be out of Iraq by November 2006. Do you think that’s a possibility?

Seems like a simple question but the answer might have implications on the region for the next three or four generations to come. Almost like the British invasion of Iraq and subsequent withdrawal in 40’s & 50’s after installing monarchs in Iraq. That led to countless bloody coup for almost 25 years till we got to Saddam. Now, the same thing is being repeated again. When the war started, there were many who said that Iraq is different than countries in Europe and Japan. I hope you can the see the difference as well.

I think that the troops will be withdrawn in one year or so.

Re: Troops Withdrawal

Let us see. It'd be good if it happens.

Re: Troops Withdrawal

Likely a good chunk of U.S. troops will be withdrawn in 2006 as Iraqis take over and other nations step up with assistance to assure the supply of oil isn't disrupted. And with 2006 being election year the political pressure to reduce troops will grow.
