Since gupshup admin is not taking note of a lack of awareness among our ancient posters on trolls and how they work, I have decided to raise awareness and in turn earn some sadqa jariah.
Things to keep in mind…
If the poster literally has a disclaimer in their post stating their trolling attempt, dont give them a benefit of doubt and take their word for it
If the post is about any of the hot button issues among our brownies such as marriage, second marriage, four marriages, weddings, engagement, pre-marital carnal pleasures, affairs (see a pattern here), get your cynic antennas up and safely assume it is a troll
If this is the poster’s very first post he/she is already pouring their heart out and that too about one of the above mentioned topics, yep that is also considered trolling by the experts
If subsequent posts reveal twists that’d make “Humeira Ahmed/Farhast Istiyaq/insert fav desi author” envious for not thinking of it first, then most likely you’ve been trolled
If posts play on your emotions that’d give most trite bollywood formula a run for money, you have been had
If all seems a bit to convenient, like poster claiming moving to another locale and already has a babe willing to settle down with him, especially a non-brown babe, your logic should have warned you by now
If OP is ignoring all plausible, feasible responses to resolve their issues and only responding to posts that can help stretch their sordid story, then run
Don’t try to troll the troll because you’re only helping their cause. Remember they thrive on posting mayhem
Now, if you’re one of those posters who like reading their own posts, or derive a sadistic pleasure from repeating the same old thing over and over and over until the readers want to poke their eyes out cuz they read this same thing only like 5 seconds ago from you in another post…I am afraid this troll 101 is too basic to refrain you. I’d suggest a hiatus or some other drastic measures IF you’re truly looking for help. Lastly, what disease is it that a RISHTA can’t cure!
but what makes spotting trolls on gs difficult is the existence of a vast number of pseudo-trolls on planet life1. these are critters you wish were trolling but are actually being honest and opening their little hearts to you.
We have had many people who's first 10 posts have been about their private issues. Which means they only came on GS to get some sort of advice from people who wont judge them or know them offline.
I don't think we should kill it for the people with real issues by automatically assuming they're trolls by their first post. Some of the other points you made are true though. Like a faker will only reply to those posts which will add on to the drama and increase thread pages.
Aren't U taking this online community a little too seriously if ur writing that much just to stop people from responding to someone's post .. Wat do ut hink it's a competition ?
