Okay, not okay? All in good fun, an excuse to engage in a spirited debate, insensitive to the people providing genuine responses? Do you assume that some/most threads are fake?

it just hit me.. the trolls are usually men, the pseudo-trolls are almost always women.. maybe a sociologist can shine some light on this.

Why do you equate being naïve with being stupid? So what if someone assumes that a trolling thread is true when it's not. Don't you think that the scenario described is possible somewhere out there and people giving their opinions on that scenario have some valid or useful perspectives to share?
I do agree that some people feel sympathy or anger at a specific poster based on the content of their post, but responsibility for making an "emotional investment" is up to each poster. Each poster needs to suss out the veracity of a poster who for all intents and purposes is a nameless/faceless typist somewhere on the other side of the world.
