Trip to Niagra Falls & Toronto

We’ll be visiting this area for a weekend so I would like to get some information about it. We’re planning on spending the first night at Niagra Falls (Canadian side). What place would you recommend to stay there? I was thinking maybe if the place is just outside of Niagra Falls, I can find a better deal on the hotel. So what city/hotel would you recommend?

The second day we will spend in Toronto. What are the places to see in Toronto? I would like to stay near Gerard street close to the desi community. What hotel would you recommend?

Would really appreciate any suggestions.

I wouldn't know about which hotels to stay at cuz I've never stayed the night there... but there's this really nice small town called Niagara-on-the-lake. You could probably stay there. Or maybe some other guppy can help ya out with that.

In Toronto, Gerrard street isn't the only desi community. Every street or corner of Toronto is jam-packed with desi's. If you want to experience the Downtown life, then yeah there's lots to see there. It depends on what type of sight-seeing you're interested in.

well to be frank judging by the people who visit, Niagra Falls, minus the falls is like a north indian vacation destination..

CareBear - thanks for the info. I will look into that town as well. Although I'm considering staying right in Niagara Falls.

Baba G - are you implying that this seems like a typical desi vacation spot?

Or do you mean I gotta check out the falls when i'm there?

well it sure does.. except that it's better maintained.. let's see though for how long.

Baba G has nailed it. From the hooting to the stares to the loud bhangra music, shalwar kameez, the smell of desi food....you name it! It's all there.

Sky, I visited Niagara Falls and Toronto for a bit less than a week this July, with my family. Went to Niagara Falls first and went through the local gift shops, eateries, as well as adventure trails and funhouses, etc. The light show in the Falls was awesome as well. In Toronto, stayed at my cousin's place. Visited the CN Tower, the Eaton Centre shopping mall, Gerrard St., and parts of the downtown area. On the way back, took a quick detour by Niagara On The Lake and the famous Falls clock. All in all, I had a really nice time.

Well desi hotspot is sort of what I'm looking for. Living at a place where there are very few desis, it would be nice to get bit of a desi flava.

sweetpie - thanks for the info. That's pritty much what I have in mind to do while i'm there. CN tower...downtown toronto...Gerrard. Will check out the mall you mentioned too if i have time. And of course check out the falls.
