Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Alhambra, the main reason to visit Granada. Truly magnificent place.

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Pics below are the area of Albycen and Sacromonte as viewed from the Palace

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Below pics are of Nasrid palace inside Alhambra. The access to Nasrid palace is controlled, at a time only 50 people are allowed to go inside. So there are long queues during the peak time.

Beautiful flowers inside the palace

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Sacromonte, on the opposite side of Alhambra palace. Famous for gypsies and Flamenco bars, the place comes alive in the evening to enjoy drink and have tapas.
As I don’t drink and cannot enjoy tapas (may contain bacon) so I visited in the afternoon in scorching sun. It was siesta time there and I found all places closed and streets empty, although found some other humans strolling like me :stuck_out_tongue:
It was great experience! You can take buses from the city center. The ticket is about 1.60 euro (if I remember correctly).

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

I was there in 2006!!!!! Absolutely beautiful!!!!

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

The old Albaicin area of Granada where arabs used to live (they still live there). Narrow and steep streets that you can explore. Some shops selling handicrafts and some places to enjoy tapas and drinks. Also you can see Granda city from this small hill.

Beautiful pictures! Definitely going on my list of to go places.

In this pic http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/139145/dsc-0344.JPG are these old houses that used to be there? it looks like it.

http://www.paklinks.com/gsmedia/files/139145/dsc-0455.JPG here it looks like someone just cut off the carving/decoration.

And tapas! It has bacon??? :frowning: Do the tapas in the Arab areas are edible at least? :frowning:

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Highly recommended

These used to be the quarters of the guards, who protected the palace.

Quite possible, may be some restoration is done as well.

Some have, some don’t. Like some are made of vegetable or fish or chicken. There are lots of varieties. The idea is that you buy a drink and get tapas free as snack with the drink. I did not try but it is quite possible they don’t offer tapas with the Coke

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

That makes me sad. =(

Any other etiquette or quirks of the place I should know about so I don't make a faux paus or stick out like a sore thumb?

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

tapas are just small plates to nosh on!!! there is alot of bacon/pork/ham in Spain, but it’s just as easy to find seafood/non meat tapas…

patatas bravas..had it every freaking day in Spain! what the heck to do they do the potatoes to make it taste like that lol!

spanish fritata

calamari

pan con tomate

these yummy friend peppers in garlic sauce

the cheeses…omg the cheeses!!

sauteed mushrooms

these teeny tiny fried fish

olives…

…I need to go back to Spain :naak:

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

we had no problem at the tapas bars ordering just soft drinks lol

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

No, Spain is very easy going country. The people are warm and you can easily blend in.

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

Good to know, I just did not try.

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

This is the worst time to be listing yummy food khatti :grumpy:

So hang on, you just go to a bar and be like, “pepsi please” and they bring out your drink and a plate of tapas?

That’s real good to know

Re: Trip to Granada, Spain

lol Essie!!! We wandered into a bar right next to our hotel and I asked the guy for a cocktail with no alcohol..he mixed juice with club soda for us and asked if we wanted to snack on anything…between my high school/college level Spanish and his English we had a grand old time!! We tipped extreme well.

Ekumunng is right, the people in Spain are so incredible warm and nice and helpful. It’s a beautiful country with beautiful people.

You can find tapas cafés too, that aren’t just bars.

oh, and the churros!!! Dear god the churros!!!
Served with the thickest chocolate you can imagine!!!
