trip to Dallas

Thinking about making a trip to Dallas for the Labor Day weekend. Can anyone recommend any touristy places/ restaurants for a couple on a 3-day weekend there?

Re: trip to Dallas

lol! :hehe:

tell me a little more about your interests…are you asking about restaurants in general or specifically desi places?

what are your interests? Dallas is mainly about all shopping and eating out, there really isn’t a whole lot to do here but if you’re visiting family, Lake Grapevine & Lake Lewisville offer good water/boating/recreational activities

There are also a slew of waterparks and Six Flags (the original) amusement parks

A tour of Cowboys Stadium (now renamed AT&T Stadium)…it is absolutely jaw dropping!

-Northpark Center is a must for shopping
-Sprinkles Cupcake boutique..they also just opened up a Sprinkles Ice Cream next door
-For trendy/hipster type stuff than Uptown, West Village & Mockingbird Station is where you want to be at
-If you’re going to be the 'burbs, then Shops at Legacy in Plano
-Turkish Cafe & Lounge in Plano/Frisco is the latest hotspot..they have the best outdoor patio for sheesha & belly dancing at night
-Perot Museum & Klyde Warren Deck Park in Downtown Dallas are amazing…makes you feel as if you’re in a large city/urban enviroment
-Reunion Tower has an observation deck that revolves and 540, which is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant
-No visit to Dallas is complete without going to Al Markaz in Carrollton (the premier desi hub with the best nihari ever!!!) or Taj Chaat House in Richardson
-Olive Burger in Richardson
-Noodle Wave for Halal Thai

If you want more high end non desi recommendations, let me know

And if you know where exactly you’ll be (“Dallas” is a very loose term lol) I can give you more recommendations

Is not there you recently kill a poor woman fading from a roller coaster?

Sharam karain for suggesting that to poor op

Btw I have an innocent question.

Where does Debbie live in Dallas?

Re: trip to Dallas

Hey Katti,

Thanks for the info! Currently my husband and I live in a state smack in the middle of nowhere between IL, CO and TX, and one of the “major” cities closest to us is Dallas; therefore, since we have nothing better to entertain ourselves with where we are living currently, we decided why the hell not. We won’t be seeing anyone in Dallas and aren’t expecting much but we’d be more interested in the city/ trendy/ hipster part of the what the place has to offer. Nice cafes, malls, stadiums and even museums are all fair game. If you know any resorts/ tourist towns in the surrounding areas/states, I’d be interested in those as well.
Lake Grapevine, Lake Louisville and the Cowboys Stadium sound interesting. I’m going to look them up! Can you visit the stadium without staying in for a game? He’s from Chicago and I’m from So. Cal so theme parks and Sprinkles Cupcakes isn’t something new, instead I want to hit up all the local joints! Noodle wave and the Falooda place sound awesome too!

Re: trip to Dallas

Is this for real? I’m SO going!

Re: trip to Dallas

You can tour Cowboys stadium anytime there is not a game or even scheduled. Preseason is well under way already..there is a Cowboys preseason game scheduled on 8/29 and then regualar season starts Sept 8th, so I think you should be able to squeeze in a tour…check the website for details…

So if you’ll be here for 3-4 days, then I would say these are must items on your itinerary for a true taste of Dallas:

-Northpark Centre & Mockinbird Station (they are catty corner to each other on opposite sides of Central Expwy/I-75) Mockingbird Station has the Anjelica Theatre…you can catch indi flicks there as well as mainstream movies..very “artsy” enviroment

-Klyde Warren Park/Perot Musuem & Uptown/West Village can all be knocked out/taken care of in the same time block (buy tickets in advance for Perot Musuem…it sells out fast!)

-Noodle Wave for dinner..it’s right off of Central Expwy as well in Richardson…maybe 15 minutes away from Northpark in light traffic

-Grapevine Mills is a HUGE outlet mall that has Niemans Last Call…Horchow outlet…Off Saks…not to be missed!!! OOOhhhhh…also in Grapevine, definitley check out the Gaylord Texan Hotel & Resort..even if you’re not staying there, it’s gorgeous inside and nice place to stroll around…it’s minutes from Grapevine Mills…Downtown Grapevine is also fun/quirky

-Al Markaz & Agha Juice for dinner and falooda after you get done with your day in Grapevine…not to be missed! (and I’m minutes away from both )

Let me know if you have anymore questions!
