ya know what, many Pakistani people have issues about Pak military engaging in the tribal areas to clean it out of the foriegn rats and their local pals. fine
then people have real issues if NATO drones turn these guys and their hideouts into nachos bellgrande…
so here is my solution, outsource it…soldiers of fortune, guns for hire, mercenaries (not not mercenary2k) subcontract the work. tell em to go and clean up.
Problem solved. territorial integrity is managed, No NATO forces in tribal areas, and Pak military does not have to lose soldiers and all in that terrain.
Note to NATO, Pak govt and all: no charge for this advise. Just a percentage on whatever is given to the nercenaries.
It's one solution. But I think best solution is to educate them all and bring in development. Now this could be a Baloch scenario with the sardars being the problem. But just today the US promised nearly a billion dollars in developmental aid for Pakistani tribal areas over 5 years. That could go pretty far, but this all depends on whether the tribals are going to accept modernization. If modernization comes, the foreigners will be out. I'm not sure how much of this hosting they're providing is out of being paid with large sums of money by the foreigners, and how much is Pashtunwali. I think the foreigners are just very rich so hire out the tribals. In effect you'd be hiring out tribals to get rid of other hired out tribals. I think the solution is probably to modernize the whole damn area.
roadie yaar I agree 100% but do we have the luxury of having 5-10 years to educate the tribals to get desired results, long term and short term solutions both need to happen in parallel or in a staggered fashion.
Pir jee it was actually offered and people (Pakistanis) were trained, i think there were like 200+ in the Clinton era. but it never happened because our beloved President came in to power few weeks before that.
Those people are still available, and willing (for money) to do the job, its just that the political will is not there anymore.

This sounds fictitious. Politically, the Paki government would like to incorporate the tribal areas under Pakistani Law I think. Always has been this way.

chanda, 200+ rangroots say toh tribals or al kyda ki daarh bhi garam nahen ho gi.
what is needed is specialized covert ops with the best damn technology and weapons..
Cool, in that case I say we send Batman to deal with the fundos, can't get any more hi-tech than that!!....and he's not corrupt!...Just what Pakistan needs!!

pir jee, thats exactly what those guys were trained for, they were not going to be involved in combat (face to face) but to extract targets etc.
in any tribe, there are those who are the high and mighty, if you remove them there is always a power struggle for there position, and in doing so with financial help you can have pro govt. people in those positions, and if it doesn't work then you can start all over again.
and for those who think this is fictitious, it might be. :)

yeah but the issue is that qaum will have khujli that oh no muslims are killing muslims, so hey lets address a bunch of their issues, its not the army, its not US its not nato, its not muslims, its outsourced to mercenaries ... atleast all these other objections will go away :)
The whole problem that we have now is product of decades of sweeping the dirt under the rug.
How many countries in the world had tribal areas? I mean areas that are loosely managed, i do not know of any.
Then the tribal area was left as no mans land for decades when it suited uncle sam to bring mercenaries from all over the world to fight communists. These people were then left to stay and settle.
Tribal areas continued to be hideouts for all sorts of people who wanted to dodge authorities, many of them used to pay the locals for protection.
Tribal areas were store house for stolen cars and abducted children. We wud not have bothered about them had it not been uncle sam's arse in pain.
Now decades of mismangment is haunting government.

I hope you will be one of the mercenaries. Come here and we will teach you a lesson.
