Now he should leave the Senate.
Ah, American politics make & breaks politicians in no time. I don't think he will loose elections as some suspect. He has done a lot for the people of Mississippi & they won’t forget his efforts anytime soon.
DC is a mean town. I think he got off fairly easily. He should go back to wherever he came from. We don’t need bigots to lead us.
Ny, i think he has plans to have a show in Vegas with Gary Condit as his side kick.
Yeah, it’s time he stepped down.

Yesterday, Trent made an statement, that he will fight for it for what he said.
Translation: He'll be gone in a week; and that's what happened. He's gone.

man did you really think he would do as he said? i mean afterall he is a politician.
Re: Trent Lott to step down as Senate majority leader
I’m sure as a DEMO you would love that UTD. He should now stay put and contribute as a Senator and keep the Republican majority in tact. The DEMO governor of Miss would be sure to appoint a DEMO to fill his spot and we don’t need that. If the DEMOs can have ex KKK members like Byrd pontificate on their behalf, certainly the GOP can have its own bigots there too can’t they?
I was the first American GUPPY to call for his resignation as majority leader because he proved himself unfit for that position. Among the rest of the typical fat cat, hypocritical, hands-out Senators, he fits right in.

Fraudia,

myvoice, it surprises me that you would want members of the Lott type representing the Republican party. I would think that you want the party to be held to the highest of standards above all other parties. I guess words are easier to spout than actions are to take, no?

UTD: As I stated before, I don't want the "Lott type" representing the Republican Party IN LEADERSHIP POSITIONS. The people of every state and district are free to elect anybody of any type to represent them in the Senate or House. Perhaps you would like to impose "suitability standards" on what is an acceptable or not an acceptable belief structure in candidates for public office. I don't think that's appropriate.
The fact that the people of West Virginia continually elect Democrat former KKK Member Robert Byrd to the Senate doesn't mean the DEMOs are a bunch of racists or bigots. The West Virginians who elect him may be racists or bigots and, hopefully, a lot of West Virginians hang their head in shame for what the majority of fellow citizens do every six years. The same is true of the citizens of Mississippi who elect "Lott types" to office.
As to the GOP desire to hold itself to the highest standards above all other parties, I am satisfied that it already does that. That doesn't necessarily make me real proud though because the Democratic Party has set its standards so low.

myvoice of course I wouldn't want to impose "suitability standards" on what is acceptable belief structure in candidates for public office that's what the parties are for :). If the Republicans want to be known as endorsing racists so be it, I was merely stating that I would think the Republicans could show some real class if they pressured Lott to quit reason being racists don’t belong in their party. This won’t be the case though, and bashing Democrats won’t make the public forget Lott or what party he comes from.

To the contrary, UTD, parties do NOT impose "suitability standards" on candidates for public office. Voters do. Parties create a "platform" which represents the majority viewpoint of their members. Anyone and everyone who finds a party's platform to be closest in affinity to his/her own beliefs is free to join the party and run for political office in that party's primary. So, once again your arguments miss the target.
I know it just bugs the heck out of you and other die hard leftist, liberal DEMOS that the GOP would swiftly cleanse its leadership of its sores and send out the message to the electorate that intolerance and bigotry is unacceptable in its leadership positions. When all is said and done, I'm now pretty confident that the GOP's response to Lott's remarks will make the party more not less attractive to minorities. Many will applaud the GOP action and start seriously wondering why the DEMOs don't do anything to cleanse their ranks.

Amazing but so true. The dems have a murder and former KKK leader in the maze of dismay but thats OK.
The best thing about all this is that we won't be subjected to endless pictures of the worst toupee on Capitol Hill (since Trafficant was sent off to the cross-barred hotel).

Republicans got two Corporate Criminals, Bush and Chenny on their side.
I guess they are criminals just from your say so. Or can you back this with a conviction? Not..
Yeah, all these scandals have nothing to do with Bush and Chenny.
I love the mentality on this board. They should call this forum conspiracy affairs where we can all share our theories. To answer ytour lame question until it is proven in a court of law no they don’t.
Nobody should doubt the damage done to the Republican party by Lotts racist outburst.. but ‘myvoice’, you dont have to be a leftist democrat, to condemn extremist ideology emanating from the ranks of the Republicans. Americans were outraged by Lotts comments.. but I just wonder how many die-hard republicans also share Lotts views.. perhaps many thousands. ![]()
But I believe the long term damage to the Republicans will come from the Bush Administrations links to Corporate Corruption.. this is an ongoing saga.
