My cousin works in Pakistan in a Multi National Company.
I was talking to him when he got a call on his cell phone.
He was literally shouting loudly at the person on the other end of the line about some work related issue 
The guy works two levels below my cousin at the same MNC. My cousin is the manager I think and the other guy was like a sales manager or something…
I was really shocked and I was like to my cousin k that is sooooooooooooooo rude how could you speak like that with your colleague or anyone for that matter
And he’s like ya I feel really bad about it and I never used to do it but my boss actually sat me down and told me that this is the way you have to deal with it you must raise your voice when required if you want any work done…the guy messed up badly at his job and I have to make sure he gets his work done or I’ll be answerable as he works under me…and my boss shouts at me too when I don’t get my work done…
basically my cousin was like that’s completely normal to shout at your subordinates
and then my cousin told me that this person whom he was speaking to was actually in his late 40’s and so much much older than my cousin
that was just totally shocking!
but my cousin said that age and these things dont matter at the workplace and the main thing is your level in the management hierarchy…and respect is accorded accordingly…i can kinda understand i mean i guess thats kinda expected tho its sad…but still shouting at someone who is abt 20 yrs older than you
This whole thing seemed really weird and honestly very wrong to me. I mean even if the person is your subordinate he still has some self respect and its just not right to talk to anyone like that!
I think that if and when I work and if my boss were to shout at me the way my cousin was talking to that guy, I would quit my job that same instant 
I’d prefer being unemployed and staying hungry; starving to death seems better than being insulted, disgraced, humiliated like that! And I would never ever shout at someone like that. I don’t think this is the way to get your subordinates to do their work, there are a million and one other ways; shouting like this and talking rudely is just out of the question and should never be an option. IMHO its just wrong!
Does this happen in your workplace too though? What are your views, thoughts, experiences regarding this whole issue?
