So what do you guys do for directions?
I’m going to UK and want to drive around all over, Scotland, Wales etc. I’m trying to see if I can do all that without asking for directions like I can in the US using GPS maps.
Any hints?

Re: Travelling thru UK
Check the GPS device vendors site for european GPS maps. Else, call the Aunty.
Oh and the following links (dont forget to take the lappy with you and crack the Wi-Fi as you trek along) :
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/
http://offramp.co.uk/web/index.htm <<<WAP site for driving on the motorways, but ABSOLUTely no driving on the wrong side.
Re: Travelling thru UK
You can get the atlas from anywhere Gas station specially.....and I personaly feel u.k roads gives better idea ,where to go ....too many signs as compared to U.S...left right can confuse you.
Re: Travelling thru UK
A good atlas will cost you around 10 to 12 quid, if u are planning to hire a car then you can ask for one with Navigation system (might have to pay few extra quid on top of rent).
Road signs are really good in UK, much better than US (u just have to get accustomed to them). I'd suggest, taking A82 from Glasgow to Inverness if you have time, have a look at lochness monster :)
Re: Travelling thru UK
...are you going to any places in particular, or is this simply a road trip thru our small island?
Re: Travelling thru UK
Hi tofi baba,
Im from scotland, when are you coming to UK?. The scenery up in scotland is absolutely stunning, if you get a chance, go to fort william and the western isles.
Another thing is speed cameras, they are everywhere, so be careful.

Are you still here Tofi?
Some loyal Google Maps Mania readers have tipped me off on some big news in the world of Google Maps - Street maps for all of Europe!
Not only are street level maps now available (in addition to the satellite maps available previously) but so are driving directions!
Re: Travelling thru UK
You can get a navigation system that's if u are travelling via a car!!
Re: Travelling thru UK
Thanks for all the replies. I ended up picking up a regular UK Road Atlas which guided me thru the trip. I wasn't able to get as far up as Scotland but went thru Wales crossing the Snowdonia National Park, then came back around and went thru Bristol to Bath where I visited the Roman Baths. Then off to Brighton Beach and back to London for the conclusion (pics should be coming up soon).
It was an excellent trip and I would recommend it to everyone. Snowdonia is lovely and the twisty curvy roads are a pleasure to drive thru for driving buffs.

PS2: Pics coming up shortly. Desk really piled up!
Re: Travelling thru UK
